Job summary:


  • The Department of Community Mental Health (DCMH) have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner working within Mental Health Team (MHT) North of Scotland in Kinloss. We are seeking an individual to provide specialist occupational mental health services for entitled personnel within DCMH area of responsibility.
  • Experience of working in a Community Mental Health setting would be an advantage along with demonstrable experience of using NICE recommended Psychological Interventions

Job description:


  • The Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner will be responsible for providing a rapid, timely and highquality mental health service to all patients referred to DCMH for assessment and treatment of mental health problems, implementing changes as and when necessary. Manage a clinical caseload delivering the optimum personal and professional standards to assist the care process in accordance with DCMH protocols and clinical governance. Act as a clinical and educational resource to Medical Officers/General Practitioners (MO/GP) and offer advice to Unit Commanders on mental health matters, the administrative management of personnel with mental health difficulties and mental health promotion.

Person specification:


  • Duties of the role include, but are not limited to:
  • Receive, appraise and advise on the direct referrals for mental health problems from relevant General Practitioners/Medical Officers.
  • Provide initial assessment and formulation of the mental health and treatment needs for referred patients, planning, implementing and evaluating care with a high level of autonomy.
  • Deliver up to date, evidencebased interventions for mental health problems based on guidance from the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the National Treatment Agency (NTA).
  • Facilitate emergency patient assessment during daily working hours, as part of a rota, in order to prevent where possible unnecessary admissions to the Inpatient Service Provider.
  • Perform clinical risk assessments on all patients seen, evaluating the safety of the patient and others in the community and being able to manage/advise on therapeutic risk taking.
  • Provide recommended clinical interventions and managerial guidance for a varied and often complex caseload of patients with mental health problems.
  • Initiate and participate in clinical supervision, case conferences/care meetings where mental health clinical input is required. Present patients seen to the MDT for guidance, support, supervision, training.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in areas relating to mental health and in the promotion of psychological wellbeing to patients, professional colleagues, Commanders and, where appropriate, Unit personnel.

  • Professional knowledge acquired through degree plus relevant experience in mental health
