    To achieve the goals of the Future Soldier initiative, the Army has restructured its operations to drive modernization and adaptation, ensuring the development of the Army's future capabilities. This role, based at the Strategic Headquarters in Andover, plays a key part in translating Defence Strategy into actionable goals for the Army, aligning resources to achieve operational success.

    Functional leadership plays a crucial role in the Army's operating model, with experts from both Military and Civil Service providing guidance and support in their respective areas. These experts play a vital role in assisting the Army in developing strategies, meeting goals, and enhancing current operations.

    One of the essential functions within the Army is Business Management. This function is responsible for strategic planning, management, and delivery of Workforce and Business Services critical to the Army's operations. It also focuses on driving continuous improvement and reform efforts to streamline the Army's efficiency and effectiveness within the Defence enterprise.

    This role within the Business Management Function is pivotal in the ongoing review to enhance business services and capabilities while ensuring the team possesses the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver professional services. This function is part of the CS Operational Delivery Profession, offering extensive opportunities for career progression and skill development to build a sustainable Civil Service function for the future.

    This full-time position is based on 37 hours per week.

    Job description

    Responsibilities of the successful candidates:

    Working from one of the Army's Strategic Headquarters in Andover, Aldershot, or Northern Ireland, you will collaborate with colleagues from Finance, HR, and Commercial professions to oversee the strategic planning and delivery of corporate workforce and business services for senior Army leaders.

    As a seasoned senior business manager leading a team of Civil Servants, you will:
    • Manage workforce and resource planning, including financial oversight, to align with the Army's strategic priorities and Command Plan.
    • Provide guidance to employees and managers to enhance engagement, attendance, performance, and talent development.
    • Oversee workforce financial management, governance, and compliance, supporting executive boards and performance reporting.
    • Enhance the workforce culture and experience, including performance management and reward processes.
    • Deliver Business Services, manage administrative support, IT services, assets, and business continuity planning.
    • Implement structured change management to drive continuous improvement in business services and capabilities.

    This role demands confident, creative leaders with a proven track record of success. Applicants should possess the ability to combine expertise and practical delivery focus to achieve results and demonstrate excellence in leadership across the Business Management function.
