WHAT YOU'LL NEED
This is where it all begins. We develop the new concepts that go on to become new Jaguars and Land Rovers. So, the emphasis is on building strong strategic, technical and financial foundations right from the start.
The test operations team is part of Engineering Operations and responsible for electrified Test Operations.
This role is within the Transmission, Driveline, Electrification power electronics and charging Team which delivers test capability supporting design, development and validation of Powertrain systems from controls development and calibration through to certification and legislative compliance testing.
The department operates a range of measurement and test facilities which are used to verify, calibrate and sign-off component, sub-system and system level targets.
The team's function is to support Powertrain and Product Engineering in their objective of achieving 'timely, quality' product releases through supporting the overall Powertrain 'cycle plan'.
- ETAD Test Operations at Gaydon (10 testbeds + Electrical & Mechanical workshop)
- New product development centre at Whitley(10 Testbeds)
- Power electronics Testing facility at Whitley (6 Testbeds)
You'll be responsible for leading the test technicians, local supervisors operators and logistics team to ensure timely quality delivery to defined processes and for optimising utilisation of the test beds.
You'll drive forward, the facilities and processes to ensure that the team delivers a world class product on time, to specification and at cost.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Coordinate test resources and workflow to enable the effective and timely delivery of test activities
- Routine Supervision and administration of Test Operations Team
- Responsible for working within and maintaining a safe working environment.
- Responsible for facility test equipment management.
- Produce KPIs for team and report to Senior Management
- Support all activities that result in a positive outcome from any audit, e.g. IATF16949,OHSAS18001, ISO 1400
- Performs supervision and reporting on any supplier Hourly team / Technicians
- Support the sign off of new test facilities as fit for purpose
- Mentoring and Training of those in Early Careers and Training as appropriate.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Technical expertise and experience of working in a modern highly automated engineering test facility.
- Technical expertise and significant experience of test facility operations and system under test preparation.
- Experience of supervising engineering teams and providing technical advice and guidance.
- Natural problemsolver with structured approach to problem solving in a technical environment.
- Strong knowledge of Health and Safety requirements, Risk Assessment, COSHH and SDS and ISO standards
- Proven ability to plan, coordinate and control own workflow and achieve quality results.
- Proven ability to adhere to all safety requirements and challenge others to do likewise.
- Proven ability to mentor and train others especially technicians, apprentices and skilled associates.
- Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent in English, Maths and Science.
- Educated to Degree level in Systems, Mechanical, or Electrical/Electronics Engineering related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Experience of process development and documentation (Guides, Single Point Lessons, Safe Systems of Work) and associated continuous improvement.
- Experience of working safely in High Voltage or highrisk environments.
- Extensive technical expertise in HV Battery and Charging technology and facility operations.
- A comprehensive understanding of High Voltage HEV/BEV powertrain systems.
- A comprehensive understanding of Lithium Ion Battery technology.
- Knowledge of data collection and communication systems (esp. AVL Lynx or CAN/Ethernet Communication protocol)
- Educated to Masters Degree level in a Systems, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic or related field.
- Experience of working with environmental chambers, coolant chillers systems.
- Experience of working with electrical test equipment and data acquisition systems.
- Experience of Health & Safety regulations, reporting and monitoring compliance.
- Experience of implementing Energy Control and Power Lockout (ECPL or Lock Out Tag Out).
- Understanding of PUWER and LOLER
