Description of Department:The Specialist Operations Directorate provides support and expertise to all investigative units across the City of London Police.


The CDIU is a specialist department acting as the Single Point of Contact (SPoC) between the Police and the telecommunications operators (TO's).TO's include all Telecom, Internet (including social networking sites) and postal services companies.


Analysing communications data plays a vital role in the fight against serious and organised crime and terrorism, and is often a vital element in securing criminal convictions.

The City of London Police is nationally and internationally renowned for its expertise in identifying, combating and preventing fraud and cybercrime.

As National Lead Force for fraud and cybercrime, City of London Police plays a vital role in this process with many teams requiring support from the CDIU.In this crucial role, you will liaise with the communications industry on behalf of Police and provide expert advice to investigators on how best to acquire and utilise communications data.

To succeed, you will need experience in research, analysis and investigation backed by excellent administrative and organisational skills.
A good team player and strong communicator, you'll be familiar with IT packages such as Excel and Power Point.

You will be assisting with the investigation of some of the most difficult and high-profile crimes committed within the force area, working closely with other specialist departments, external suppliers and Senior Investigating Officers.

Applicants must, therefore, be able to demonstrate the highest levels of integrity, be self-motivated and innovative in problem solving and be able to communicate at all levels.


In addition to core working hours, applicants will be required to work outside normal working hours, at weekends and during holiday periods by forming part of a 24-hours standby rota for 'life at risk' operations.
