    SENIOR RECOVERY PRACTITIONER RN/ODP (Band 6)

    We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic and self-motivated staff for Recovery Area at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre . You will be expected to have at least 2 years of extensive experience acute are and/ or recovery. Applicants must have excellent communication, influencing and leadership skills and thrive in a busy team environment. You will be encouraged and supported to further develop using the educational and experiential learning opportunities available. A structured orientation programme will support your development with the support of your team leader and the education team, to facilitate career development and progression.

    Main duties of the job You will be expected to have extensive experience in your area of theatre practice.     If you have experience in a Theatre or and Acute environment and like to work in a challenging, innovative and supportive environment, then the Theatre Recovery Area and the Enhanced Care Area would be the place for you.

    We are acknowledged as being a friendly, small and welcoming team working in a supportive environment. We offer a supernumerary period within Recovery & NECA theatres, a designated mentor to support you and a comprehensive competency package to provide structure and facilitate learning.

    This department provides Monday to Saturday cover therefore there will be shift work, night duty and Saturday morning.

    • Registered Nurse (Part or 15 of register depending on area of practice), ODP HCPC registration or National certification in area of Practice.
    • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of an ongoing NMC/HCPC revalidation
    • Minimum of 3 years experience in anaesthetics and recovery
    • Evidence of achievement of a NMC approved Mentorship qualification.
    • Post-graduate qualification related to an area of practice
    Desirable
    • UK recognised Degree in Nursing relevant to post or equivalent qualification for ODPs
    Leadership and Management Essential
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Able to prioritise own workload and that of others as appropriate
    • Demonstrates ability to maintain and contribute to the development of standards of practice, conduct or decision making in conjunction with team leaders/unit coordinator.
    • Acts as a role model and are able to lead by example to ensure the Trust's values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice.
    • Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective care delivery
    • Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety.
    Desirable
    • Previous experience of managing clinical incidents and complaints.
    • Previous experience in the relevant specialty
    • Previous substantive management experience of specific clinical area

    • Able to document observations, results, decisions and actions etc. effectively in patient's notes and communicate these effectively to appropriate members of the multi-disciplinary team.
    • Able to communicate effectively with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
    • Able to proactively contribute to the education of learners and non-registered and less experienced staff
    • Demonstrates ability to manage, direct and evaluate the nursing care for a defined caseload of patients
    • Competent to administer intravenous medicines
    • Competent in central venous access management
    Quality and development Essential
    • Understanding of professional and current issues related to area of practice
    • Demonstrates ability to keep up to date with professional issues that influence perioperative practice relating to the area of clinical practice, management education and research
    • Able to identify own learning needs and ensure own professional development is maintained by keeping up to date with practice developments
    • Able to lead the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies/protocols/guidelines relevant to area of practice.
    • Demonstrates ability to question and challenge nursing practice in a constructive way so that standards of patient care are continually evaluated and improved.
    • Previous evidence of leadership within practice and the multi- disciplinary team

    • Recognition as having abilities for innovation within their sphere of practice
