Role:


In this position, you'll be joining an established support team within the Digital Policing Function where you will play a key role in serving your community through the maintenance and support of critical systems.


As the Senior Network Engineer, you will be the senior member of a 5-person network support team reporting to the Infrastructure Services Manager.

The Network team manages the force's WAN managed service provider alongside the delivery of in-house supportand maintenance services for its LAN/Wi-Fi estate and network security appliances.


The force is going to be investing in SDWAN technology to support its networking services and we are looking for you to bring your networking expertise into the team.

You will work with the Technology Architect to set networking standards and to design networkingsolutions in support of new product/service development.

You will inspire and develop the skills of the network team to deliver outstanding networking services aligned to these standards and service designs.


Responsibilities:


  • You'll provide technical and security network support expertise to 6000+ Northumbria Police colleagues, across 80 + sites and home working.
  • You will lead the networking team in the refresh of all networking and security solutions and in the lifecycle management of these solutions to maintain a robust and secure networking service, leading the response to vulnerability issues identified by externalor internal monitoring services.
  • You will be heavily involved in the technical design discussions with the force's WAN service provider to ensure that an effective networking solution is designed and installed and ensure that the team have the skills and understanding to support this networkingenvironment on a 24×7 basis.
  • There will be a requirement to participate in a 24×7 365 day, On-Call rota.

Requirements:


  • A CCNA, or equivalent qualification, and/or have significant relevant experience,
  • Excellent Knowledge of network security products and countermeasures, including firewalls, Virtual Private Networks (VPN's), encryption and authentication techniques, web proxies,
  • Strong Experience in the implementation and administration of firewall technology from various vendors such as Cisco, F5 and Checkpoint
  • Experience in TCP/IP routing and switching technologies in a Cisco environment,
  • Knowledge in common network services, including Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), and loadbalancing techniques,
  • Strong experience in Cyber incident response and IT Health Check remediation within a Network environment
  • Experience of supporting enterprise Wi-Fi technology,
  • Knowledge of enterprise PKI, Active Directory and SD-WAN

  • Not travelled for an extended time outside of the county within the last 5 years (28 days in one period)
