Communications and PR Coordinator

Salary:
£24,155.00


Hours:
Full-time (37.5 per week)


Location:
Based at The Showroom, Lincoln, with regular travel to other YMCA sites and across Lincolnshire


Job Purpose:


To provide internal and external communication, promotion and PR support to YMCA Lincolnshire through a variety of channels to maintain a consistent level of employee, public and supporter engagement.


External

  • To create and implement external communication activities such as press releases, updating website content, updating social media profiles and regular newsletters to supporters.
  • To be the sole point of contact for all media enquiries and to create/maintain good relationships with local/regional/national press contacts in order to gain promotional opportunities for the YMCA and to update contacts on any projects of interest.
  • Arrange press interviews and coordinate external comms activity to raise the profile of the charity and promote the impact we make.
  • To be both reactive to and preemptive of current news stories and online social content in order to promote and/or protect the work and brand of the YMCA.
  • To attend external events,

Internal

  • To develop strong relationships with Managers and staff across our services, to understand our projects, their stories and to maximise opportunities for comms/PR.
  • To create, administer and supervise internal communications, including employee and volunteer announcements, departmental competitions, fundraising events and awareness campaigns.
  • To regularly travel to different YMCA sites across Lincolnshire to attend events and gather good new stories, working with the HR Department to ensure good news is shared across the organisation and individuals are celebrated and recognised.
  • To collate and provide information in relation to news and success for inclusion in a regular Board report.
  • Collate a library of new images of our work for future use in publications and communication. (This will involve commissioning a professional photographer and managing the contract to completion).
  • Managing and maintaining communications filing systems (press releases, photo images, publications).

Marketing & Promotion

  • To monitor and update YMCA Lincolnshire's social media platforms, updating profiles, creating content, writing social media posts and monitoring engagement.
  • To ensure website content for YMCA Lincolnshire is regularly updated. working with Managers of all departments to ensure information is relevant and up to date and particularly to keep the news section refreshed regularly.
  • To design and create graphics for YMCA Lincolnshire's website and social media platforms, as well as internal communications e.g. newsletters.
The post holder will be responsible for managing deadlines of required marketing material both in-house and for external clients.

Good relations with other department heads/staff/volunteers on a day to day basis as necessary.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Excellent IT skills (Mac/PC), particularly Microsoft Office.
  • Outstanding written skills ability to write independently, eloquently and succinctly.
  • The ability to adapt writing skills for different audiences.
  • Confidence in dealing with people internally and externally.
  • Strong understanding of social media channels and how to work with them in a professional capacity.
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Energy, drive and enthusiasm.
  • Good presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work under pressure, ensuring work is completed to strict deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise own work in keeping with agreed levels.
  • Proactive attitude and a willingness to work independently.
  • Excellent problemsolving skills.
  • Driving licence holder must have access to own transport with business class insurance.
