We are looking for a qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner to work as part of our East Staffordshire Mental Health Support Team (MHST)


The post holder will:

  • Deliver evidencebased, early intervention for children and young people in education settings with mild to moderate mental health presentations, working with a range of professionals to direct best practice, in a holistic, and child centred way.
  • Help children and young people within these settings who present with more severe problems to rapidly access more specialist services.
  • Support and facilitate staff in education settings to identify mental health and wellbeing needs, promoting a Whole School Approach and embedding a positive ethos and attitude to mental health and wellbeing.


This is an opportunity to be involved in an established team within the wider CAMHS structure, as a joint initiative between health and education.

The post holder will work across the East Staffordshire locality as well as supporting other MHSTs across South Staffordshire. You will work with a variety of agencies to ensure a quality service is provided. You will work alongside the team to deliver parent, staff well-being, 1:1 and group work sessions.

You must be a qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner and have obtained the relevant EMHP Post Graduate Diploma qualification following the completion of a CYP IAPT approved training in Evidence-Based Psychological Treatment for Children and Young People (C&Y IAPT).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • And to use the acquired skills, knowledge and abilities to deliver a service based within education settings that builds on and reinforces but does not replace those initiatives that already exist within these environments.

  • Assess and deliver outcome focused, evidence-based interventions in educational settings for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, working at all times in collaboration with and giving respect to the education function of the setting in which the post-holder is deployed.
  • Work in partnership to support children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties and their parents/carers, families and educators in the self-management of presenting difficulties.
  • Work in effective, evidence-based partnership with children, young people, their families and their educators in the development of plans for the intervention and agreed outcomes.
  • Support and empower children, young people, their parents/carers and families and their educators to make informed choices about the interventions being offered.
  • Operate at all times from an inclusive values base, which recognises and respects diversity.
  • Accept referrals within educational settings according to agreed local and national and local protocols.
