Are you passionate about supporting homeless or vulnerable people to progress towards independence and independent living?

Can you support people to integrate into life in the UK including through relevant support for their mental health and wellbeing?
One YMCA has partnered with Watford Borough Council to provide a 20-bed Afghan Resettlement Project in Watford.

Twenty Afghan nationals will be provided with safe and supported accommodation and will receive intensive support focussed on resettlement, mental health, and other complex support needs.


You will need to deliver support intensively on a person-centric and individual needs basis, utilising a dynamic and innovative multi-agency, positive value-based culture and shared goals approach.

Residents will be supported to identify and focus on realistic and achievable short, medium, and long-term goals.


If you can communicate in the main Afghan dialects, this would be advantageous, but it is not essential, so if you cannot, you are welcome to apply.


This is an exciting time to be joining One YMCA as we embark on an ambitious plan to grow our housing service and double our impact across all our accommodation sites - as part of our Mission 25 goal.


Hours of shift work:
Hours are worked Monday to Friday and will include occasional weekend hours. Shifts below include a 30-minute lunch break.

  • Week 1 Early shift 8am 4pm
  • Week 2 Late shift 1pm 9pn

What do we need you to bring to the role?

You must bring:

  • An understanding of complex needs and therapeutic approaches to support the residents in addressing their needs and inform change
  • An indepth understanding of childhood trauma and its impact on mental wellbeing and be able to deliver the appropriate information, intervention, advice guidance
  • Knowledge of statutory & nonstatutory provisions for client group
  • A developed understanding of therapeutic practice with adults with complex needs
**An Enhanced Disclosure check is required for this role.
