The councils' Private Sector Housing team are responsible for awarding Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs) that enable disabled residents to remain in their home.


The DFG Administrator provides provide administrative support to ensure grants are assessed efficiently, accurately and in accordance with the council's policies and procedures.


Main duties and responsibilities:


  • Providing advice and guidance on Disabled Facilities Grants internally and to the public.
  • Receiving and recording telephone calls from members of the public and to pass these on to the appropriate team member.
  • Acting as the intermediary between the council's Home Improvement Agency contractor and the Private Sector Housing team.
  • Accurately processing Disabled Facilities Grants payments.
  • Reviewing administrative procedures and identifying potential process improvements.
  • Undertaking administrative duties for DFGs and Flexible Home Loans, including generating and sending correspondence, scanning, and uploading documents, and collating responses to customer satisfaction surveys.
  • Providing general administrative support for to the Private Sector Housing team.


The duties may vary from time to time without changing the nature of the post or the level of responsibility and the post holder may also be required to carry out any other duties appropriate to the grading of the post.


About you

Your essential skills, knowledge, and experience:

  • A minimum of one year's general office/admin experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Word
  • Selfmotivated and capable of independent decision making (where appropriate).
  • Financial experience of dealing with purchase/sales orders, accounts
  • Able to multitask and effectively prioritise workload.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Numerically literate.
  • Ability to work with mínimal supervision and to targets and deadlines.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.

Your essential qualifications

  • 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths (or equivalent level of qualification or experience)

If you have the following experience or qualifications - it's a bonus

  • NVQ Level 3 in Administration or equivalent
  • A level qualifications in English or Maths
  • Experience of working in local government or housing
