Opportunity**The Office of the COO function forms a key part of the Group COO organization, supporting Group Operations across the UK and Europe. Operations at TMHCC includes Architecture, Technology, Data, Procurement, Business Transformation, Enterprise Change, Claims and Underwriting Operations.


Role Description

  • The Head of the Office of the COO will report to the Group Chief Operating Officer and will be accountable for supporting the Operations department across a wide range of activities. The Head of the OCOO will be responsible for establishing and overseeing a set of practices that will provide services and resources to the COO department leaders through a matrixmanaged operating model. The practices will cover risk and governance, financial management, talent & resource planning, operational resilience & continuity, and communications & reporting and will be delivered to the COO departments via business partners who will reporting into this role.


The Head of the OCOO will also provide leadership and direction to ensure targets and objectives are tracked and met, provide data analytics and management reporting to support communications both at Department and Board level.


Key Objectives


Establish and manage the following COO Practices, develop, and maintain standards, processes, and best practices for each of the Practices in alignment with THMCC policies and procedures.


  • Financial and Performance management
  • Talent & resource planning
  • Risk, Resilience and Governance Practice
  • Communication & reporting


Provide oversight and tracking of Operations strategic planning, ensuring department leaders develop long-term strategies and goals to enhance business performance and align with strategic objectives.


Build and manage the OCOO team of "Business Partners" and practice resources to support Operations leaders in effectively delivering the specified services.


Financial Management Practice:


  • Oversee and track financial management, including expenditure, consumption, and demand for all Operations areas, collaborating closely with the Finance team.

Talent and Resource Planning Practice:


  • Develop and implement a COO workforce strategy to support organisational goals and drive resource management operations for the successful execution of workforce plans and improved employee engagement.

Risk Practice:


  • Cultivate a culture of control within the Operations functions, offering consolidated reporting and tracking of risks, audit findings, and controls to meet or exceed corporate and group expectations.

Resilience and Governance Practice:


  • Take accountability for the overall Operational Resilience function and Business Continuity capability, ensuring appropriate plans and measures are in place, and regularly tested as part of our business continuity capability.

Communication and Reporting Practice:


  • Develop a comprehensive communication strategy for the COO function.
  • Manage the Executive Reporting schedule.
  • Serve as a trusted confidential advisor on business management matters, fostering close collaboration among UK, European, and USbased functions.

Experience Required:


  • Proven track record of senior leadership in business management within a related industry
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing successful delivery teams that align with business objectives
  • General knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards in the insurance industry
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to leverage data and technology for operational assessment and risk management
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, including the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with operations leaders and key stakeholders in the business.
  • Experience in leading and developing highperforming teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
