- Participatesin the rota for the routine aseptic production ofradiopharmaceuticals within the RadiopharmacyUnit.

- Accurately and safely asepticallymanufacture routine radiopharmaceuticals for administration topatients within the Trust and external hospitals in accordance withRadiopharmacy procedures and Local Rules for Radiation Protectionand ensure that they are ready at the requestedtime.
- To ensure that preparation of prescribedradioactive medicines is undertaken in accordance with relevantlegislation e.g. EC Good Manufacturing Practice(GMP).
- Participation in the preparation ofnonroutine radiopharmaceuticals and nonradioactive pharmaceuticalswhen requested to do so by the Head of Radiopharmacy RadiopharmacyProduction Manager and other staff.
- To conductradiopharmaceutical production work with due speed and efficiencyhaving regard to the need for a high degree of precision makingappropriate allowances for radioactivedecay.
- To participate in the preparation ofbatches of longlived radiopharmaceuticals when requested to do soby Senior Radiopharmacy staff.
- To receiveradioactive stock and other materials for the Radiopharmacy Unit.Unpack and store in accordance withprocedures.
- Act to resolve any problems thatarise with the radiopharmaceutical productionruns.
- Toparticipate in the highly specialised blood radiolabelling servicewhen requested to do so by the Radiopharmacy Production Manager inaccordance with the standards set out in the procedures and localrules and to ensure that they are ready at the requested time to beadministered to thepatient.
- Participatein the routine quality control checks on radiopharmaceuticalsaccording to the procedures are laid down ensuring that thesechecks are recorded accurately and that any failure(s) is reportedto the Senior Radiopharmacy Staff and relevant Nuclear MedicineConsultant for further action.
- Prepare samplesfor end of the session media fill tests as specified in theprocedures.
- To undertake and or supervise theroutine pharmaceutical environmental monitoring in accordance withthe procedures.
- Carry out calibration andappropriate tests on key equipment and facilities and to informSenior Radiopharmacy staff of any problems or unusual occurrencesimmediately when they occur.
- To assist inperforming highly specialised techniques for the quality control ofradiopharmaceuticals.
- Tocoordinate the daytoday technical aspects involved in themanufacture of radiopharmaceuticals.
- To planand manage radiopharmaceutical production runs to ensure that allrequested items can be made with the available radioactivesolution. This may require reelution of the radioactive generator.If demand exceeds this to liaise with customers to reduce thenumber of requested products. This also involves accuratelytranscribing prescription
details to generate worksheetsand labels for the manufacture of radioactive medicines in linewith National Regional and localguidance. - Responsible for day to daysupervision and training of the Senior Assistant Technical officerundertaking duties in the Radiopharmacy Unit and ensuring theseduties are carried out during their absence.
- Toparticipate in development and review of Policies and StandardOperating Procedures as required.
- Assist in theimplementation of changes in accordance with EU GMP so that it canbe demonstrated that all rotational senior clinical technologistsand junior staff are trained where appropriate. The postholder hasa responsibility to demonstrate an awareness ofchanges.
- To assist the Senior Radiopharmacystaff to resolve any problems that may arise with the operation ofthe AHU plant and any equipment and liaise with the EstatesDepartment to arrange maintenance.
- Toparticipate in pharmaceutical quality audits required under EU GMPand gather relevant information.
- To participatein undertaking pharmaceutical validationwork.
- Review current practices and policies andpropose changes where benefit to customers other healthcareprofessionals and patients may result.
- Toliaise with professional and technical staff within the Trust andother departments to assure a quality service and to resolveproblems.
- Perform any other duties consistentwith grade which may reasonably be required by the Head ofRadiopharmacy Radiopharmacy Production Manager and Systems QualityManager.
- Toparticipate in research and development projects as requested bythe Head of Radiopharmacy.
- To participate inclinical trials involving the preparation of radioactive medicines.
- Toparticipate in the packaging of radioactive materials andpreparation of legal documents for the transport of radioactivematerials by road.
- To take responsibility forconforming to the local Rules for Radiation Protection includingdecontamination procedures.
- Dispose of used andexpired radiopharmaceuticals and other radioactive and clinicalwaste (when required) with due regards to local radioactive wastedisposal procedures.
- To participate inradioactive contamination monitoring within the Radiopharmacy Unitin accordance with the procedures and Local Rules and recordresults of suchmeasurements.
- Toassist the Radiopharmacy Production Manager in maintaining thestock control system for consumable items used in the preparationand quality control of radiopharmaceuticals in the RadiopharmacyUnit.
- To complete all necessary paperworklabels and other documentation required for the preparation andquality control of radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with EUGMP.
- Maintain records for the receipt anddisposal of radioisotopes in accordance with Radiation Protectionrequirements.
- Responsiblefor maintaining own competency to practice through CPD activitiesundertaking onthejob and other training and maintain a portfoliothat reflects personal development.
- As part ofprofessional development and maintaining competency to practice thepost holder is expected to attend courses and meetings relevant toRadiopharmacy.
