    Job summary

    The post holder is responsible for the provision of a high-quality Occupational Therapy service, ensuring that the service delivered meets Trust and professional standards and develops in line with Government, Clinical, Professional, and local guidelines. They have responsibility for formulating intervention plans and delivering specialist individual and group work interventions for a caseload of clients with complex needs. They will be required to deputise for the Clinical Manager and/or OT Lead and provide cover for the other team members as necessary.

    Act as a Lead Professional for a limited number of patients with complex needs ensuring the full implementation of the Care Programme Approach Policy.

    To be responsible for supporting, developing, evaluating an evidence-based group programme, developing group skills for all staff to aid recovery principles.

    To be a key resource in facilitating the pathway to primary care.

    Main duties of the job

  • Act as a key resource for the Occupational Therapy needs of the wider MDT caseload. To guide the team on the appropriate use of therapeutic risk-taking during MDT discussions, using specialist OT and mental health knowledge. To meet the needs of service users in an effective, efficient and recovery focused approach. To ensure the maintenance of a high standard of care to working age adults with severe and enduring mental health difficulties supporting the implementation of the Care Programme Approach (CPA) and act as Lead Professional. Provide occupational focused assessment, formulation, care plan, and intervention to patients with complex functional needs in their own homes and communities. Evaluate Occupational Therapy interventions and consider ongoing needs of the patient and identity opportunities for longer term support when required. Chair care programme approach meetings, case conferences and other clinical meetings as indicated. To develop, facilitate and evaluate a group work programme. To support the wider Occupational Therapy service when required; this may require you to work with patients in different services.

    We have been working with other local NHS Trusts to create a new organisation, bringing together all community, mental health and learning disability services from across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Subject to approvals, the aim is for the new Trust to be formed by July 2024.Project Fusion is the name for the programme to create the new combined NHS Foundation Trust. The new organisation will operate locally to ensure services can best meet the needs of different new Trust will be comprised of all the services currently provided by Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, the community, mental health and learning disability services provided by Isle of Wight NHS Trust and child and adolescent mental health services delivered in parts of Hampshire by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.Colleagues will transfer to the new organisation under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) -- known as TUPE on 1st July 2024. TUPE is a legal process to ensure you transfer out of one organisation and into another, maintaining the terms and conditions of your employment.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Degree level or higher in Occupational Therapy
  • Health and Care Professions Council registration
  • Desirable

  • Training required to teach students on placement
  • Specialist post graduate training in a range of subjects relevant to challenging behaviours
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Post graduate experience working in complex and high-risk mental health settings - managing challenging behaviours
  • Experience of applying the Occupational Therapy process in mental health
  • Experience of using standardised and functional assessments and activity analysis in a mental health setting
  • Experience of supporting and supervising junior staff
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
