Based in Glasgow, Coughtrie International has been based on the Hillington Industrial Estate since 1940. Due to expansion of our portfolio, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a time-served electrical assembly operator. (previously, this position would have been called a wireman / wirewoman).

This role is a multi-functional role that requires someone with someone with excellent attention to detail, a good level of dexterity and a hard working approach.

The majority of the work will be in electrical assembly, however, as required, this person will be required to work in other areas of the shop floor manufacturing lighting products.


  • Looming and routing of single and multi core cables e.g. 30awg 12awg
  • Good understanding of electrical drawing & schematics
  • Experience with Molex Micro, Mini & junior fit plugs, sockets & crimps.
  • Experience using JST & PA plugs & crimps.
  • Good soldering skills for connecting wires &components
  • Experience routing cable chains
  • Have the ability to produce own work instructions & documentation
  • Use of crimp tools and being able to identify which tool is correct for the crimp


  • Connector terminations

  • RF, data, power, semi rigid (forming and termination)
  • Multi pin connectors (e.g. 15 way dtype) including EMC protection
  • Basic cabling connector to connector 15 way or less basic looming 10 wires and less, basic soldering (dtype) connectors, crimping of ring crimp
  • Slip rings, cables with junctions, splices (soldered and crimped), solder sleeves, connector up to 55 way, multi core cables crimping with DMC, Huber + Suhner, Molex style of pliers
  • Rack assemblies with fixed units, wiring basic racks, RF wiring, fibre optic wiring
  • Assembly and wiring of racks with withdrawable units, fitting of waveguide connectors
  • Development of first off racks and cabling
  • Assembly of luminaires
  • Packing and despatch of all items manufactured
  • Working to strict deadlines.
  • Work fully independently in completion of tasks
  • In addition to the duties listed above, the position holder must carry out any other tasks assigned by their supervisor


This is a hands on role and requires a person who is self-motivated and who has a reputation for making things happen.


  • 3 years' experience working in a shop floor environment including panel wiring or electrical fitting on machinery
  • Experience of point to point wiring, crimping and terminating
  • A recognised qualification including City & Guilds, NVQ3 or equivalent
  • Ability to read Electrical circuit diagrams
  • Experience of carrying out corrective works, alterations and fault finding
  • Knowledge of electrical components and electrical assembly.
  • Desire to deliver quality workmanship
  • Is practically minded and has an ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels
  • Ability to work independently, flexibly and as part of a team.
  • Ability to coach and support the development of others.
  • Able to work under pressure
- knowledge of panel wiring / electrical wiring or similar
