This temporary role offers an opportunity to contribute to the smooth operation of our catering department and support our vital hospice services.


Job Purpose/Summary:


As a Catering Assistant at Marie Curie Hospice Hampstead, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the daily provision of catering services.

Working collaboratively with our team, you will assist with food preparation, uphold food hygiene regulations, and deliver excellent customer service to patients, staff, and visitors.

Your role will contribute directly to creating a positive and comfortable environment for everyone at our hospice.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Possess a current Level 2 food hygiene certificate and adhere to food hygiene regulations.
  • Maintain awareness of allergens and ensure safe food handling.
  • Assist in basic food preparation, including sandwiches and buffets.
  • Safely operate and clean equipment, such as slicers and vegetable peeling machines.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and demonstrate good communication skills.
  • Perform general cleaning and washingup duties, including the operation of cleaning and dishwashing equipment.
  • Thrive in a dynamic and robust environment, maintaining flexibility within a 37.5hour weekly roster.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team and display the ability to work independently.
  • Prepare and maintain the canteen area as needed.
  • Serve customers and staff at the servery, handling payments for meals and purchases.
  • Deliver food and beverage trolleys to the In Patient and Day Therapy Unit/Meeting rooms.
  • Assist with additional tasks as directed by supervisors or managers.

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Experience within the catering or kitchen environment, preferably in healthcare (not mandatory).
  • Current Level 2 food hygiene certificate.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to excel in a fastpaced setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a customerfocused attitude.
  • Effective teamwork and independent work capabilities.
  • Flexibility to work 5 out of 7 days, with shifts between 7am and 7pm.
