The Departments of ENT, Neurosurgical and Oncology at the University Hospitals Birmingham provide world class adult skull base service.


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, enthusiastic, motivated and forward thinking individual to lead our Skull Base Service as a Clinical Nurse Specialist Band 7.

The successful applicant will have a positive impact on the patient journey, treatment and outcomes for our patients and their loved ones.

You will have a positive attitude and a clear interest in working collaboratively with the MDT. You will be able to demonstrate care delivered with professionalism, compassion and dignity.

You will possess the skills to manage your own workload and you and will be able to demonstrate working collaboratively with the MDT.


You will need to be a Registered Nurse with recent experience caring for patients within the specialities of ENT or Neurosurgery or Oncology.

Demonstrating strong passion for the speciality, you will be the keyworker for the patient from their diagnosis through treatment and follow up.

In order that nurse and medical resource is effectively utilised, the potential for nurse led clinics will be maximised.

This role is opportunity for you to lead the drive and implementation of this innovation and advance quality patient experience.


You will be required to complete a short presentation at interview if you are shortlisted-the title of which will be given to you for preparation prior to the interview date.


Main duties, tasks & skills required:

You will lead as a clinical expert within the speciality as it is currently as well as reviewing the current service in order to drive the implementation of the service improvement.

You will facilitate the best possible journey for the Patient and their loved ones.

You will drive implementation of nurse led clinics.

You will collaborate closely with the head and neck clinical nurse specialities.

You will work in close collaboration with the MDT including in patient and out patient departments.

You will attend MDT meetings.

You will attend clinic with consultant at cancer diagnosis.

You will complete patient Holistic Needs Assessment.

You will facilitate Patient recovery support.

You will facilitate Psychological Patient support.

Qualifications:


Essential:

Registered Adult / Child Nurse on the NMC Register (Field dependent upon role)

Evidence of post registration CPD / Post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to degree / masters level equivalent FHEQ Level 6 /7

Recognised mentorship course


Experience:


Essential:

Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC

Significant years post registration experience as a Clinical Nurse

Specialist at B6 or above in defined or associated speciality

Extensive experience of working autonomously at a specialist level

Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development/ competence

Demonstrate expert knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality

Experience and enthusiasm for developing educational programmes and teaching / assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting

Working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment

Experience of patient service user advocacy role

Can demonstrate expert nursing knowledge with an ability to assess, plan, impleme
