For that we need exceptional public health professionals to join our dynamic team.We have two exciting opportunities for registered Consultants in Public Health/Public Health Medicine to join the leadership team of the Department of Public Health – driving the approach to improving health equity across the city.
Both roles are Assistant Directors of Public Health with specific portfolios of responsibility, as well providing leadership for the department and promoting health equity across all the domains of public health and all life course areas.
This role will focus on "upstream" prevention – working with partners to tackle the social determinants of health inequalities as well as leading life course specific workstreams for children and young people, and older people.
Making Manchester Fairer (MMF) is the city's plan to improve health equity with a strong focus on the impact of poverty, housing, work, and the environment as well as racism and discrimination – recognising that a significant proportion of Manchester's diverse population don't have the same opportunities to be healthy and well or to reach their full potential.
The Assistant Director with this portfoliowill support the DPH in leading the MMF programme and ensure that community voice and place based approaches are at the heart of what we do.
Role 2 – Healthcare Public Health and PreventionThis role will focus on "downstream" prevention and outcomes for people who face multiple disadvantage and some of the most complex challenges to improving their health.
As a city of sanctuary, Manchester becomes home to many people who have experienced trauma, poverty and homelessness which can lead to poor physical and mental ill-health as well as addiction and contact with the criminal justice system.
Structural inequalities also underpin some of the highest premature mortality rates from long-term conditions and cancer in the country.We invite applications from those who have completed higher specialist training in public health or equivalent and are on the GMC/GDC Specialist Register or UK Public Health (Specialist) Register.
