    Job summary

    Would you like to specialise in Older Persons Mental Health? We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our supportive inpatient team to continue their development and supervise a small Occupational Therapy Team. The Occupational Therapy Team cover 2 wards, both service users with organic and functional mental health diagnosis.

    We are continuing to evolve our clinical practices, and striving to make a positive difference to each person we encounter. There will opportunities for you to engage with and facilitate in service learning opportunities to increase your skills and experiences, along with others.

    You will also have the opportunity to experience working both within a ward setting, as well as supporting service users in the community to reintegrate back to their home environments and typical daily routines. You will have opportunity to develop your leadership and management skills, by supervising registered and non-registered staff.

    Main duties of the job

    To provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, intervention and rehabilitation to service users who are experiencing a range of mental health issues. You will facilitate cognitive and functional recovery, prompt discharge planning to enable the person to remain in their home for as long as it's safe to do so.

    You will provide supervision and support to other members of the team and student Occupational Therapists. You will demonstrate a commitment for delivering evidence based, quality intervention using research, audit and quality improvement projects as delegated by the band 7 team lead. The post holder will be flexible to the service needs, possess excellent self-management skills and administer their caseload efficiently to ensure effective individualised assessment and intervention.

    We are looking for a candidate that is motivated, enthusiastic with exceptional communication and people skills. Someone who has in-depth knowledge and experience working within Older Person's Mental Health Services and understand and adapt to the unpredictability this type of environment can bring.

    The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Post graduate training/ accreditation in fieldwork education
  • Registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council
  • Evidence of commitment to CPD

  • Post-graduate training in motivational interviewing, goal planning
