About the Role:


You will be part of the nursing team contributing to the clinical care of patients by providing a high-quality and accurate blood collection service.


Main responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.
  • Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with protocols and procedures.
  • Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers.
  • Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity.
  • Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient wherever possible.
  • Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure.
  • Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
  • Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff.
  • Notifying the clinical team of any significant patient issues.
  • Undertaking training and development as required in line with the responsibilities of the post and practice policies.

Essential:

  • Experience in venepuncture.
  • Able to work under pressure with mínimal supervision.
  • Experience of dealing with the public/patients in a caring environment.
  • Aware of need for strict infection prevention control.

Desirable:

  • NHS Care Certificate.
  • Experience of working with SystmOne clinical system.
  • Experience of Microsoft Office software.
