About the Role:

You will be part of the nursing team contributing to the clinical care of patients by providing a high-quality and accurate blood collection service.

Main responsibilities include:

Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.
Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with protocols and procedures.
Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers.
Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity.
Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient wherever possible.
Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure.
Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff.
Notifying the clinical team of any significant patient issues.
Undertaking training and development as required in line with the responsibilities of the post and practice policies.

Essential:

Experience in venepuncture.
Able to work under pressure with mínimal supervision.
Experience of dealing with the public/patients in a caring environment.
Aware of need for strict infection prevention control.

Desirable:

NHS Care Certificate.
Experience of working with SystmOne clinical system.
Experience of Microsoft Office software.
