Description

The Quality Control Technician will ensure all manufacturing operations which have a direct or indirect effect on product quality are performed in compliance with API, TSLI, and customer requirements and internal procedures by performing a Quality Control overview of these operations.

To ensure that, in the event of non-conforming operations the appropriate corrective actions are taken and reported, and that non-conforming product is quarantined.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:


General

  • Ensure compliance of the Company's Health & Safety and Environment Policies and Procedures, Safe Working Practices and Statutory Regulations at all times.

Quality Control

  • Ensure via first article, batch, and patrol inspection that manufacturing and inspection operations are performed in compliance with defined Quality Procedures
  • TSLI's, Quality Plans, internal procedures (Control Plans / SOP's / Works Instructions).
  • Prepare and set MRP gauges ahead of production demand and ensure dimensional accuracy in respect to licensor requirements.
  • Goods inward review, dimensional, blanking dimensions, visual inspection and traceability.
  • Understanding of customer drawings.
  • Identify when corrective action is required and take appropriate action. Ensure correct reporting completed.
  • Reviewing Makeup graphs from bucking unit to ensure they are available and correct.
  • Carry out weekly phosphate weight tests of each, to ensure compliance with premium thread licensor requirements.
  • Perform Final Inspection release, prepare, present and maintain final quality documentation as required.
  • Create Certificates of Conformity relating to specific works orders.
  • Supply relevant documents to customers, material certificates etc.
  • Support development and compliance to Customer Quality Plans.
  • Training and support:
  • Training new starts that require training on certain parts of the job.
  • Offer technical assistance when required by Quality Control Supervisor.
  • Real time operational control / trouble shooting for critical processes (phosphating, sand blasting, stress relieving).
  • Conduct improvement trials using the workshop equipment.
  • Compile quality and management reports as required.
  • Liaise with customers 3rd party inspectors.
  • Participate in Company Services and external audits as required.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects.
  • Assist as required, other members of the production team, in minimising downtime of workshop, whilst ensuring process compliance.
  • Perform detailed process reviews and Mini-Quality audits to ensure operational practice is in compliance with relevant standards and instructions.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:


Competencies required:

  • Preferably possess a recognised appropriate craft qualification in an engineering/metallurgical related discipline, reached through apprenticeship and achievement of appropriate City & Guilds Certification.
  • Possess practical experience in pipe and thread inspection or relevant machine shop experience.
  • Possess practical experience in the use of shadow graph, experience of thread casting, and experience of reading dimensional drawings and working to client specifications.
  • Ensuring the proper use and care of, company workshop and equipment, machinery, personal equipment, test equipment and tool kit.

Knowledge:

  • Possess a specialist knowledge in critical processes (phosphating, sand blasting, stress relieving).
  • Possess a working knowledge of VOG UK gauging procedures.
  • Possess a working knowledge of ISO 900
  • Possess a sound knowledge of Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement Techniques, is preferable.

Skills:


  • Possess good communication, organisational, interpersonal, presentation and negotiating skills as the role will involve liaison with senior personnel across the internal and external customer group.
  • Must work cooperatively, within the production team, across the whole organisation, and with external customers, focusing on continuous improvement goals.
  • Must demonstrate a flexible and innovative approach to problem solving.
  • Good user knowledge of Microsoft packages (Word, Outlook, Excel and Powerpoint), as the post holder will require to compile and produce reports and presentations.

Working Environment:


  • The postholder will be required to work in a variety of processing environments which can be hot, dusty and noisy. Work may involve working at heights.
  • The postholder will be required to work from time to time, in and adjacent to hazardous zoned areas which of necessity involve wearing protective clothing.

Salary:
£17.33 per hour


Expected hours:
No less than 40 per week
