An exciting opportunity has arisen within the outpatient department we are looking for a motivated and dynamic team player to take up the role of Deputy Sister.

This role is in our Main outpatients department at Poole. Outpatients is a busy department seeing patients of all ages and look after many different specialities.


Outpatients is a large part of the patient pathway into the hospital, whether it is their first appointment or a follow up appointment.

Our nursing is there to support them throughout.


If you have excellent communication skills and really care about supporting patients within a clinic setting we have a brilliant opportunity within our friendly outpatients team.

  • To assist the Outpatient department Sister and Matron in providing an efficient, cost effective and quality service, ensure best practice in accordance with trust policies and procedures.
  • To take responsibility of the Outpatient department in the absence of the Sister or as and when required.
  • Work autonomously undertaking holistic assessment examination in order to implement management plans for patients in speciality nurse led clinics.
  • To assist in the management and organisation of the Outpatient departments.
  • To assist in the future development of the outpatient department
  • Lead and Coordinate a team to ensure the delivery of effective nursing care to patients and their families reflecting the UHD Values and the Poole Approach.
  • Participate in the supervision, assessment and development of staff and students through performance review, clinical supervision and teaching in a variety of settings and act as a resource for education and development within the service
  • To act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.
  • Use specialist knowledge and skills to provide healthcare to patients attending the Outpatient department and lead on the development of new and current Outpatient Nurse led services and clinics

  • To be a role model for nursing staff by ensuring good and safe practice at all times.
  • Promote and facilitate a patient centred approach to care, to set monitor and maintain standards of nursing care.
  • Deliver specialised care in keeping with the needs and wishes of patients and their families.
  • Provide complex wound care and dressings demonstrating current evidenced based practice in Nurse led clinics and at the request of the speciality clinicians.
  • Work autonomously undertaking holistic assessment examination in order to implement management plans for patients in speciality nurse led clinics.
  • To maintain clinical credibility through best practice. To utilise the findings of nursing research to optimise high quality evidence based care and to disseminate relevant information to staff.
  • Review, develop and initiate practice development and protocol according to patient needs.
  • Provide specialist information, advice, support and education to both patients and carers with regards to patients treatment
  • Liaise with other health care professionals regarding the needs of patients and implement appropriate action.
  • To provide specialist information, advice, support and education to both patients and carers with regards to patients treatment.
  • Act as a link nurse for specific aspects of clinical practice in accordance with needs of the department and personal special interests.
  • To be accountable for own professional practice and responsible for acquiring, developing and maintaining competencies and skills.
  • In an emergency situation the nurse will be required to respond speedily and swiftly for the patient wellbeing. Supporting junior staff during and after any emergency situation.
  • To ensure the safe custody and administration of medicines in accordance with established Trust procedure and policy.
  • Is accountable for actions and Complies with NMC Code of Professional Conduct for Nurse, Midwives & Health Visitors
