Main purpose of the post:


Assist as a Team Member in the provision of a secure, supervised environment within which young people's individual needs are identified and programmes of care are implemented and reviewed to undertake direct day to day care of the young people and any other supportive tasks and duties.


Main duties and responsibilities:


  • Contribute to a safe structured and stimulating environment in which young people's physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs are provided for.
  • To promote and participate actively in the provision of high standards of physical care, hygiene and safety for all the young people.
  • To observe assess and monitor the young person's health development and emotional wellbeing.
  • To assist in the management of the behaviour of individual young people and groups of people appropriately and within
the guidelines laid down by the Department and the Children's Homes regulations.

  • Participate in the identification of the young people's needs and contribute to the implementation of individual personal Care Plans.
  • To provide opportunities for and participate with all the young people in constructive, vocational andleisure activities both within and outside the secure setting.
  • Ensure all young people and staff are treated fairly, regardless of race, gender, religion or other personal factors.
  • Undertake keyworker roles and responsibilities.
  • To encourage and assist young people in maintaining contact with their family, social workers and other professionals.
  • To contribute to effective record systems and assist with the preparation of reports for the purposes of case conferences, secure reviews and other relevant forums.
  • To attend and contribute to reviews, case conferences and case planning meetings, representing the Home in a positive manner.
  • To be aware of and follow all the security procedures in operation within the Centre in order to maintain the security and safety of the young people, the staff teams and the building.
  • To participate in staff meetings, supervision and training opportunities.
  • Be aware of and ensure compliance with the Children's Homes Regulations and Departmental policies and other relevant regulations and procedures as adopted in the Centre.
  • Undertake any other duties as directed by the Line Manager appropriate to the grade and role.

Expectations

  • The postholder is required to carry out their duties in accordance with the Hillside SCH statement of Purpose service aims.
  • The postholder is required to comply with the Authority's policies. The postholder' s attention is drawn in particular to the fact that the Authority expects professional conduct of the highest standard at all times, commitment to equal opportunities and antidiscrimination practices and conduct of work in a manner which is safe for self, colleagues, and the public.
  • The postholder is responsible in conjunction with their Line Manager and the Department's Staff Development and Training Unit, for identifying and meeting their development and training needs. The postholder can expect to have access to regular professional supervision.
