We have a Community Care Worker vacancy within the Building Futures Team, providing Edge of Care services to our Torbay children and families.


We are a busy team working with complex and demanding situations affecting children and families in Torbay, where children are experiencing challenges within their family environment.

The aim of the team is to provide high quality intervention and support to children and families, to enable children to achieve better outcomes, safety, stability and permanence.

A present we are operating a 3 week revolving shift pattern, working one in three Saturdays.

Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm, Saturday 9am-5pm.


There is an expectation that you will work 5 evenings across the 3 weeks, where possible we keep to the same evenings each week.

Our ethos is guided by working restoratively with children, families and colleagues.

We have a focus on developing strong positive working relationships with whole families to address crisis and persistent issues, for example neglect.


Building Futures provide high intensity and a rapid response to a number of children and families in crisis, enabling them to address and overcome the difficulties that have led to the family being at risk of breakdown, and prevent further escalation and avoid admission into the care of the local authority - unless that is the only safe option.

The Building Futures Team also support the safe re-unification of children to their families, following a period where they have been cared for by the Local Authority, and also support cared for children and their carers in terms of enhancing placement stability.


Role:


We are looking for skilled practitioners who have experience of direct work with complex families who may have experienced trauma.

You will have confidence and skills to work with young people and families in crisis.

You will be a dedicated and enthusiastic professional, committed to improving outcomes for children and their families.

The successful applicant will need the ability to travel efficiently around the Bay/South West/UK in order to carry out duties, and the ability to accommodate unsociable hours


This post meets the requirements for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check. This will show spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions which have not been filtered in line with legislation, plus any information held by local Police that is considered relevant to the role.

Interviews are expected to be conducted during the week commencing 04th March 2024.

Skills:


Essential:

  • Ability to engage positively with children, young people and their parents.
  • Ability to produce and maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Ability to challenge families appropriately.
  • Ability to carry out assessments, plan and deliver needs based packages of support.
  • Ability to offer appropriate support to families

As this post meets the requirements of the Immigration Act 2016 (part 7), the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.

Knowledge:


Essential:

  • Understanding of basic human needs, physical, emotional and social
  • Knowledge of Children's Act 1989 and 2004, Adoption legislation, Crime and Disorder Act 1998 (Parenting Orders and Anti Social Behaviour Act 200
  • Knowledge of issues facing families at risk of family breakdown.
  • Self awareness of own strengths and weaknesses.

Experience & Qualifications:


Essential:

  • GCSE pass in English at Grade C or above or equivalent
  • Work in a health or social care environment (paid or unpaid) with children and young people.
  • Experience of working with children, young people and families displaying challenging behaviour.
  • Experience of health/social care needs and services
  • Evidence of consistent pattern of learning from education, training and experience
