Description
Working hours are 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The Senior Trainer is an integral part of the Training and Continuous Improvement Team.

The primary responsibility is to deliver outstanding training (ranging from beginner to 'Train the Trainer') to our team of Health Care Assistants across all of UK Biobanks Imaging Centres in venepuncture and baseline modules, whilst ensuring high quality data and samples are collected to the same standard.


Training modules include:
Collecting blood and urine samples
Physical Measurements; blood pressure, height, weight, body fat composition, pulse trace, hand grip strength
Medical Interview including history of cancer, medications, illnesses
Application of cardiac monitors
Touchscreen Questionnaire (self-guided lifestyle questionnaire
Cognition (memory tests, puzzles)
Reception (welcoming and concluding a participant visit)
Centrifuging blood samples
Customer Service (interacting with participants)

Other elements to the role include:
Regular travel between all UK Biobank centres including stays away from home. Willingness to work flexibly is essential e.g. occasionally work the operational hours of the centres
Analyse and scope training requirements.

Understanding the needs of the centres, performing regular reviews of training progress, conducting onsite observation checks and annual competency checks will be a key part of the responsibilities.

Complete documentation to show evidence of training. Update and improve training materials.

Ensure best practice is being applied and the learning objectives are met, whilst also supporting colleagues in providing a positive experience for the participants.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver high quality training for Health Care Assistants in UK Biobank's baseline and venepuncture processes, in both a simulated and clinical environment.

Assess skills to determine individual training requirements and develop appropriate and individualised training plans with input from the wider team.

Monitor progress following training to ensure it has been effective. Ensure all feedback on training is communicated and recommendations made for process improvements. Create tools to measure and track effectiveness.
Provide additional mentoring and training when required and adapt training approach to meet individual learning styles.
Ensure high quality blood samples are collected, and to resolve any quality control issues resulting from venepuncture practices.
Manage issues and risks associated with venepuncture and investigate and resolve non-conformances when and if they occur.
Conduct regular audits to ensure phlebotomy standards are adhered to at all Imaging Centres.

Assisting with additional or ad hoc training as and when necessary due to enhancements and changes to the imaging project.

About you
Essential
A minimum of 3 years venepuncture experience.
Experience of delivering training to Health Care Assistants or in a medical field.

Ability to develop training materials and proven experience of delivering training in-house and remotely on both a one-to-one basis and a group setting.

Trustworthy, personable and people-focussed with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
Pro-active, creative and well organised with excellent time-management skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to speak clearly and effectively to all levels.

Strong ability to teach and engage with others, able to break down concepts into easily understandable segments and able to teach concepts to a wide variety of learning styles.

Experience of data collection and reporting with strong attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to provide effective feedback and coaching.
Knowledge of ISO standards.
Able to utilise technology such as Microsoft Office and virtual meeting tools.
Desirable
Experiencing of working in research (preferably volunteer cohort studies).
Experience of venepuncture training delivery.
Working with volunteer participants.
Laboratory experience.
Train the trainer qualification.
Managing change and involvement in continuous improvement.
