The role of Craftsperson (Lines) offers an exciting and diverse array of challenges as well as excellent opportunities for personal development.

This role sits within SP Transmission Network Operations, reporting to the Team Leader (OHL).

In this role, you will carry out all aspects of transmission overhead line work including inspection, maintenance, fault repair and limited construction work.


_ What you'll be doing_:


As Craftsperson (Lines) you will be contributing as an effective member of the Overhead Line Refurbishment team while carrying out job instructions in a timely, efficient and safe manner.


You will be supervising contractors on tower construction and maintenance work and undertaking all tower maintenance works and defect repairs required, repairs to tower furniture e.g.

aircraft warning lights, step bolts.


Recording and updating asset inspection system with accurate and quality information and assisting in fault repairs on the transmission system.

Carrying out various conductor repair techniques on the system as required

Strives to eliminate customer complaints as an on-site representative of the company and carrying out line inspections post fault.


_ What you'll bring_:


  • Understanding of materials, equipment and techniques associated with Transmission conductor repairs
  • Demonstrate an understanding of construction and maintenance techniques for Transmission Overhead line refurbishment
  • Demonstrate an understanding of safe systems and be proactive in driving them.
  • Hold a current driver's licence
  • Demonstrate an understanding of principles and techniques for lifting, rigging and slinging
  • Hold Scottish Power, National Grid or other REC's system authorisations
  • Ability to work at all heights on all structure types associated with OHL work
  • Knowledge of signing and guarding standards for transmission overhead lines
  • Team player attitude
  • Flexible adaptable attitude. Understanding that on occasion you may be required to start earl or work on with little or no notice as is the nature of our work

_Minimum Criteria_:


  • Proven track record in the transmission OHL industry
  • Evidence of system authorisations held
  • Proven track record in all aspects of slinging, rigging and OHL repairs and maintenance
  • Min 5 years industry experience
  • Have a proactive "can do" attitude
