    Job summary

    Castlegate& Derwent Surgery is currently recruiting a GP Assistant on behalf of Cockermouth & Maryport PCN, a network of two GPpractices. This role combines clinical and administrative skills whilst working collaboratively to look after the health and wellbeing of ourlocal population.

    This is an exciting opportunity for a General PracticeAssistant (GPA) to join our friendly and dynamic team.

    Main duties of the job

    We are lookingfor a highly motivated individual who will work as part of a multi-disciplinaryteam to provide support across the practice/PCN in:

  • Completing simple clinical observations, investigations & support
  • Youwill have excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skillstogether with a good working knowledge of primary care and the challengesfacing patient care in the NHS.
  • Your hours will include Extended Access Working outside of normal surgery hours 18:30-20:00 once weekly on a 3-week pattern and Saturday working 09:00-17:00 on a 4-week rota is required

    We arecommitted to giving our patients the highest quality service by maintaining acaring, respectful and mutual confidence between Doctor and Patient. We have 7 GPpartners working closely with 7 salaried GPs and a dedicated Practice teamwhich includes a Paramedic, 3 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, a team of PracticeNurses, Treatment room Nurses, GPAs, Social Prescriber and Care Coordinatorsand are supported by Admin and Reception staff.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    Job Summary:

    A GPA role combines the clinical skills of a Health Care Assistant (HCA) with the administrative skills required to support the smooth running of clinics.

    Main duties/Key tasks:

  • Completing simple clinical observations /investigations as directed locally, such as dipstick urine, taking blood pressure, ECG, phlebotomy
  • Supporting the GP with immunisations/wound care
  • Take basic readings in readiness for a GP appointment;
  • Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes
  • Dealing with routine clinical post directly DNA letters, 2WW etc.
  • Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments for patients
  • Processing and following up referrals as required
  • Work alongside wider practice and PCN teams who support GP administration to ensure a joined up approach and communication
  • Confidentiality:

  • In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately
  • In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, Practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the Practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential
  • Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data
  • Health & Safety:

    The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the Practice Health & Safety Policy, to include:

  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines
  • Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
  • Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
  • Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
  • Reporting potential risks identified

  • The completion of all electronic training identified as relevant to the role.
  • Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work

    The post-holder will:

  • Apply Practice policies, standards and guidance
  • Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work
  • Participate in audit where appropriate
  • Immunisation :

    Due to exposure to patients and potential risks that presents it will be a requirement of the postholder to have / have had the following immunisations:

  • Influenza
  • COVID in line with national guidance
  • Hepatitis B

    Essential

  • Phlebotomy Qualification
  • English & Maths GCSE (or equivalent)
  • Desirable

  • Reception or Administrative training
  • Care Certificate Qualification
  • NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care ( or equivalent)
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Experience of working in Primary Care of similar NHS setting
  • Basic Clinical experience Phlebotomy, taking blood pressure, urine dipstick.
  • Desirable

  • Experience of using EMIS Web system
