    Job summary

    Northdown Surgery has an exciting opportunity for a hardworking, enthusiastic and innovative pharmacy technician to join our growing team. This role is offered on a full-time basis.

    The post-holder will support the practice based clinical pharmacist, to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and efficient systems for repeat prescribing, medicines optimisation, reducing medicines waste & maximising patient outcomes.

    Main duties of the job

  • To undertake medicines reconciliation in accordance with practice protocols & to update patients medical records/prescribing accordingly.
  • To support the achievement of the practices prescribing Quality & Outcomes Framework targets.
  • To undertake patient-facing consultations, in the context of medication reviews & other clinical services relating to medicines management.
  • To provide advice to GPs, staff & patients, in changes to prescribing, to support the improvement of prescribing safety, quality & cost effectiveness.
  • To participate in medication audits.

    The Practice is currently looking to recruit a friendly, enthusiastic and hard-working pharmacy technician to join our team. You will work with the practice team to meet the needs of patients, nurses and GPs following policies.

    Job responsibilities

    To undertake medicines reconciliation in accordance with practice protocols and to update patients medical records / prescribing accordingly.

    To support the achievement of the practices prescribing Quality and Outcomes Framework targets.

    To undertake patient-facing consultations, in the context of medication reviews and other clinical services relating to Medicines Management.

    Working with the Pharmacist to contribute to the review and development of repeat prescribing protocols / Standard Operating Procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of repeat prescribing systems.

    To provide advice to GPs, staff and patients in changes to prescribing to support the improvement of prescribing safety, quality and cost effectiveness.

    To participate in medication audits.

    To assist in the appropriate monitoring and management of prescribing the budgets and to liaise with the medicines management team at the CCG.

    To prepare evidence-based resources and information to support the implementation of rational cost-effective prescribing.

    To support the Practice Based Clinical Pharmacist to provide medication reviews, patient information leaflets, medicine awareness; and to undertake community visits as appropriate.

    To take a proactive approach to the safe handling of prescriptions, including assessment of risk and making recommendations for improvement.

    To respond to medication queries from patients and staff in a professional manner referring to the appropriate GP in accordance with practice protocols.

    To advise on the sourcing and safe management of medicines as appropriate.

    To assist in the submission of claims for personally administered drugs as required

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • GCSE in Maths, English and Science
  • BTEC / NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Candidates must be registered with the GPHC
  • Good clinical pharmacy knowledge, including terminology
  • Knowledge and understanding of pharmacy law and ethics and current legislation.
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Previous work experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting
  • Experience of dealing directly with the public/patients.
  • Ideally, previous work experience in primary care.
  • Preferably experience of clinical audit.
  • Ability to work effectively, independently and as part of a multi-skilled team.
  • Accurate and detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise workload.
  • Able to adapt and adjust to changing environments, guidance and protocols.

  • Experience of using Emis clinical system is desirable
