The role has full responsibility and oversight of a business function (current headcount 200) and this will grow considerably over the next 12 months.

Implement the organisation's Human Resources strategy which includes recruitment and employee relations. Responsibility for driving the strategy and supporting the business units in their management of their employees. Overall responsibility for the management of the recruitment function.

  • Coordinate and administer the day to day operation of the human resource requirement of the designated business unit(s)
  • Support the business unit to align business objectives with employees and management in the designated business unit.
  • Support the management team on all human resource related issues in the designated business unit; seeking additional support if necessary from centralised functions such as Payroll, Recruitment and Talent.
  • Liaise with centralised functions to ensure that a full employee lifecycle service is provided to the business unit
  • Support the HR Manager to embed the annual HR strategy in line with the global strategic objectives within the designated business unit.
  • Job evaluations, salary increases, appointments, absences, retirement and terminations.
  • Provide advice on employment law issues to managers within the business unit.
  • Contribute to planning and decisionmaking within the HR team so that the strategy and performance is aligned with other business strategies.
  • Support the Recruitment Manager and L&D Manager to implement effective leadership and improve senior manager performance through coaching and challenging leaders within the business unit.
  • Identify talent issues within the business unit and work with the management team and wider POD to build succession strategies.
  • Participate in business unit management meetings to provide the POD perspective and keep senior managers appraised of progress against targets with the POD and operational training scorecard, including but not limited to, attendance, overtime, vacancies, and retention and development.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with employee representatives within the business unit to support a useful dialogue between management and employees.
  • Support line managers to successfully 'on board' all new recruits ensuring that the defined onboarding process is followed and development objectives are clearly identified.
  • Support managers and ensure that 3 month and 6 month probationary reviews are carried out in a timely manner.
  • Assist managers in identifying performance issues and devise development goals and plans to improve performance of their teams, using Talent support where required and formal processes as appropriate.
  • Provide guidance and support managers undertaking investigations into conduct, capability or grievance matters in the business units, enabling them to prepare reports to identify if formal action should be considered.
  • Compile letters and investigatory evidence packs for employees required to attend formal hearings related to conduct or capability.
  • Compile letters and support managers to investigate any grievances raised by employees in the business unit as well as supporting managers to carry out any formal meetings.
  • Support other HRA's by carrying out investigations and appeals as required by the business.
  • Notify centralized functions following defined process for leavers where employment is terminated for whatever grounds.
  • Maintain appropriate records of meetings and discussions with employees that are GDPR compliant.
  • Support the managers to improve attendance and reduce sickness absence within the business units adhering to the defined policy.
  • Manage long term sickness absence by regular case review involving appropriate stakeholders (employee, line manager and OH).
  • Support managers in identifying employee development needs and oversee the training matrix to ensure that employees are compliant with mandatory training requirements.

The Successful Applicant:


  • Previous experience of working in a HR Advisor role
  • Excellent business acumen and numerical skills to provide effective service to the business unit and ability to support key business decision making
  • Results oriented with a demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities with solid time management and organisation skills; knowing when to ask for help and the ability to delegate to others
  • Level of comfort and ability to deal with complex HR related issues which may involve conflict resolution and mediation
