    Description

    Job summary

    This job involves working with sick children, helping children to come to terms with their medical conditions.

    We would like you to communicate effectively with children and their relatives, ensuring accurate and seamless information is conveyed and documented.

    Ensure that accurate and legible patient records are kept (when required) in line with professional and legal requirements, under the direct supervision of a trained member of nursing staff.

    The Post holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other health service business in accordance with Trust Policy.

    Show the ability to assess a child's development and therapeutic needs, in conjunction with the Registered Nurse, to plan play programmes and implement them.

    Adhere to and implement the Trust policy in relation to safeguarding children and adults.

    Chaperone children as required and if deemed safe to do so within the confines of hospital premises.

  • Supervise children in Clinic and ambulatory areas.
  • Assist children with meals and beverages if required.
  • Assist children with personal hygiene needs ensuring privacy and dignity.
  • Raise the profile of play throughout the Trust.
  • Use play to prepare children for hospital procedures.
  • Organise daily play and art activities in the playroom.
  • Contribute to clinical judgements through play based observations.
  • Undertake other reasonable tasks as directed to promote play in hospital

    • Main duties of the job

    To lead play and activities with children and young people who attend the trust on level 10.

    Organise daily play and art activities in the playroom or at the bedside.

    Use play to maintain a child's level of development during their illness

    Help children deal with their anxieties and feelings.

    Use play to help children prepare for hospital procedures in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.

    Support parents and families maintaining good links with home.

    Job responsibilities

    Communicate effectively with individuals, their families, carers and health practitioners using a range of styles and ensuring information remains confidential at all times.

    Use play as a therapeutic tool to help children understand their illness and treatment.

    To work with children and young people through play to enable procedures to be successful and comfortable for the child.

    Implement play programs and themes for the month planning appropriate activities.

    Work using own initiative.
