We can offer you unique on-on-the job training with opportunities to develop wider technical and project delivery skills by working alongside our experienced employees.
We will fully support your journey to becoming a CNC Machine Operator where you will become a highly skilled in programming and setting up various types of machine tools, you will learn to machine components on Lathes, select correct tooling for Milling along with gaining skills on 5 axis machine tools.
You will be trained on how to inspect work and utilise measuring equipment used in a modern machine shop. Basic fitting skills is also part of the learning for a skilled machinist. Training is given over a 4 year period up to SVQ Level 3.Job Purpose
The main purpose of the position is to train as CNC machinist, to undertake a structured training program of academic study and workshop/there will be onsite training to gain the required skills and knowledge as well as college training off-site to support AJT Engineering Ltd machining department.
Main Responsibilities
- Getting to work on time and understanding that work commences at the periods agreed, it is your responsibility your to be at work on time and ready to start.
- To read and understand engineering drawings.
- To use precision measuring equipment.
- To become proficient in programming different languages.
- Operate one or more of the following machines to a standard acceptable by AJT Engineering:
- CNC Centre Lathe.
- CNC Vertical Turning Lathe.
- CNC Horizontal Boring Mill.
- CNC Machining Centre.
- DMG/DMU 100P duo Block Deckel Maho 5 Axis Machine.
- To ensure all Health and Safety requirements are met.
- Maintain a safe and tidy working environment.
- To attend college courses as defined by training schedule.
- Carry out any other reasonable task / activities as requested by Production Manager or delegate.
Skills and Abilities
- No prerequisite experience required but a demonstrable interest in mechanical engineering through school or hobby interests.
- Good verbal communication skills to communicate with supervisors and fellow employees.
- Good level of education to include English, Mathematics.
Knowledge & Experience
- Demonstrate interest in mechanical engineering disciplines.
Working Hours:
This is a full-time role based on 38 hours per week.
