We are the UK's aviation and aerospace regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field.

Our activities are diverse, enabling the aviation industry to meet the highest safety standards, and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly evolving aviation environment.

The Role

As part of our mandate to ensure that the UK aviation industry is as safe as possible, we must conduct inspections of those operating within it.

In this instance the inspections focus on how public transport and police operators understand, implement, and comply with relevant legislation.

To this end, we are looking for experienced fixed wing flight operations professional to act as an inspector leading a team to provide regulatory oversight of AOC holders.

Your internal training for the role will qualify you to carry out the core activities of the Flight Operations Inspector which requires a level of senior executive contact and influence across the full spectrum of the helicopter industry.

This enables you to conduct regulatory activity with AOC holders where your experience will help to ensure they operate to the highest standards of safety and compliance.

You will carry out audits and inspections, reporting your findings and agreeing best practice, recommendations and action plans to address non-compliance.

Ideally you will have relevant training qualifications and experience; if so (following suitable qualification) these will also be used to oversee pilot licensing activities, including oversight of examiner and instructor standards, simulator evaluations and approval of operator training/checking programmes.

At our core we believe in fair and equitable practice and our aim is to continuously educate and facilitate the improvement of our industrial partners.

This requires thoughtful consideration when dealing with them and when developing roadmaps for the elimination of non-conformances.

With that said our primary concern is always public safety and you must be able to balance these objectives to be truly successful.

About You

The following are essential pre-requisites for applicants:

  • Possession of a UK ATPL (or have held one)
  • Relevant Industry experience as aircraft commander
  • Ability to demonstrate strong communication skills, with an ability to influence and command respect at all levels
The following are desirable

  • Experience in a managerial position in a commercial air transport operator/ Approved Training Organisation
  • Background as an experienced Instructor and Examiner in both aircraft and FSTD

What Can We Offer You?

This is an outstanding opportunity for someone who is fundamentally driven by the idea of driving aviation safety and best practice.

It works with a wide variety of partners and tackles a myriad of challenges daily.

The role acts as a bulwark against those that seek to circumvent or undermine their responsibility to maintain a safe operation.

Its work is truly meaningful, going well beyond the safety of those in the vehicle but also the public at large.

To ensure that our inspectors stay relevant we also provide personal training and development as well as supporting the maintenance of licenses.

Additional Information
For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.

To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken.

For this role this will need to be 3 years.

The CAA values high ethical standards and personal integrity among employees. If invited for interview you will be asked to complete a declaration of interest.
