    Default job background
    Full time
    Description

The Governing Council is in search of a highly driven, inspiring leader with strong strategic capabilities to spearhead the next era of growth for Forest School. The incoming Warden will take the reins of a thriving school deeply integrated within its local community and enriched by its diverse population. They will be blessed with a strong and committed staff body to work alongside. Collaborating closely with the Governors and Senior Leadership Team, the successful candidate will bring strong commercial acumen to tackle the forthcoming political, economic, and social challenges facing the independent school sector, ensuring our School realises its full potential over the long term.

The Warden should provide exceptional educational leadership with a strong business mindset and effective communication skills to instil confidence in governors and inspire staff to deliver a comprehensive, holistic educational framework to meet the needs of our pupils and families.

    About Forest

Surrounded by ancient forest and only thirty minutes from central London, Forest School is an outstanding independent day school located on the edge of Epping Forest. Forest is a large, diverse, and vibrant school, with approximately 1,500 pupils from 4 to 18. Our traditional House structure means that each pupil is treated as an individual, of whom we have the highest expectations, while our size enables us to offer breadth and depth of opportunity. Foresters are 'known, liked and valued' and this is central to our educational philosophy.

Our pupils are as busy outside the classroom as they are within it - a strong academic curriculum is supported by an equally strong co-curricular and pastoral programme, so our pupils can pursue their interests in music and the sporting field, and develop the key skills required for them to flourish in the 21st Century; for example, all while achieving outstanding GCSE and A level results.

Forest invests heavily in the development of pedagogy, teaching and learning, with all teachers expected to engage in an ambitious Professional Learning Programme which includes seminars and contact with leading minds in the teaching and learning space; most recently, Forest welcomed Tom Sherrington who presented on curriculum strategy and design. In addition, we are immensely proud of our culture of formative and developmental peer observation and instructional coaching through our Teaching and Learning Communities and StepLab. As one of the few Independent Schools Induction Panel (ISTIP) regional hubs and training centres in the country, Forest is proud of its success, expertise, and excellence in supporting Early Careers' Teachers and those new to the profession. We have a rich tradition of developing outstanding teachers and a genuinely supportive approach centred on coaching and mentoring.

"Forest is a powerhouse with a heart. The pupils exude purpose – modern, dynamic youngsters with an eye on what's happening next." – The Good Schools Guide, 2019.

"This is a high-octane environment: six to Oxbridge in 2019 and almost all leavers go on to Russell Group universities. The broad base of subjects studied at university testifies to the school's academic range and depth" – The Good Schools Guide, 2019.

"A highly efficient and effective feel to the teaching backed up by excellent results. Mathematics, Science, English and History appear particularly strong. 'My teachers really mind,' said one girl, 'and it makes such a difference to the way we all work." – The Good Schools Guide, 2019.

"Forest takes the broadest view of education, which is fantastic" – Rachel Sylvester, Chair of the Times Education Commission, 2022.
