The role:


The Product Owner is a key role that sits within the Hiscox UK Retail Change team and holds 'on the ground' responsibility for the scope of what is delivered in a given the value stream.

The role is a key interface between technology and the business need to engage effectively with stakeholders in both areas to best deliver functional business outcomes In this new role you'll work with the value stream sponsor to craft the value streams strategic roadmap, based on business strategy changes and then manage and prioritise the backlog to best deliver functional changes inline with the strategy and roadmap.


You'll be someone who enjoys making things happen and consider stakeholder management one of your strengths, with the ability to effectively engage with both business and technical stakeholders.

You like to be an empowered decision maker, able to prioritise, and can quickly establish where time needs to be invested to drive business value, providing cost effective solutions to the business in line with the overarching strategy.


The Product Owner is empowered to make decisions around priority, scope and requirements driving stakeholder engagement, ensuring they are clear on customer needs ensuring a continuous flow of value from the team.


What you'll be doing:


  • Attending standups and other scrum team meetings helping to resolve questions, reaffirm priorities and make quick decisions
  • Triaging new requests coming into the value stream
  • Managing the backlog, and constantly managing the prioritization of the backlog
  • Prioritising incidents and other maintenance / health activities against value stream capacity and priorities
  • Working with technical teams reviewing, testing and approving user stories within each sprint
  • Fixing risks and issues, escalating to the value stream sponsor where required
  • Acting as the voice of the customer to the development team, constantly providing feedback on features
  • Evolving the roadmap based on customer, business and squad feedback, linked to business outcomes
  • Taking a keen interest in selflearning and upskilling to ensure a strong understanding of technology trends and build new skills in line with the pace of change of technology
  • Communicating the value stream's development and progress against business outcomes to key stakeholders and leadership teams
  • Working with the value stream sponsor to set the funding requirements
  • Assessing progress against business outcomes with input from the team leads
  • Feeding into the Vendor Manager's performance appraisal of the vendors in the value stream
  • Supporting formal performance reviews, celebrating hard work, individual and team success

person specification:

Our must haves:

***- Someone who has been a product owner before within, ideally within a regulated industry

  • Accomplished in Agile methodologies, ideally a certified Product Owner
  • Exceeds at stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A willingness and ability to help coach and develop others

Our nice to haves:

***- Financial services or insurance industry experience

  • Experience of working with digital channels / automation and/or Insurance policy administration software
