Roles and Responsibilities


The Stockyard Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the stockyard in terms of stock, quality, delivery, safety, environmental, HR and site security, ensuring the company standards are upheld whilst respecting the defined goals and through collaborative working with the other Team Leaders / Supervisors & Managers.


Key objectives include:


  • Manage the condition of storage facilities, conducting regular inspections and arrangement of repairs where required
  • To plan and organise daily activities and resources to maintain the service levels and standards laid down for the site, ensuring accurate loading and unloading of customer and supplier vehicles.
  • To ensure that outgoing stock is properly checked for content quality & damage and the necessary documentation is signed and in order.
  • Ensure inventories are accurate and control inventory movements and transfers in the yard and to/from other sites, investigating all stock discrepancies.
  • Ensure all processes, procedures, training documents and other internal documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • To ensure that safety is a high priority issue among both employees and visitors to site; and to report/investigate near misses and complete accident reporting data and action closure according to the laid down procedures along with ensuring risk assessments are carried out.
  • Develop key skills that will assist with effective management of people including performance management and absence management including Payroll and Annual leave in line with Company Policy and Agreements and to undertake personal development reviews.
  • Control and manage employee timesheets and coordinate resources effectively.
  • Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance whilst motivating and coaching the stockyard & stores team to operational success.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the organisation through making recommendations for change, identifying improvements and active involvement in team meetings, objectives, project work, training, and communications.
  • Ensure a clean and tidy working environment to aid operational efficiency.
  • Monitor and control customer returns/credits ensuring these are done in a timely manner and all paperwork is correct.
  • Administer and control Toyota I-Site management.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Previous experience of Logistics, warehousing, and inventory control.
  • Strong management capability and ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Able to achieve results by setting standards and committing to clear objectives.
  • Full understanding of customer expectations and deliverables with an awareness of the impact of failure/cost of poor quality.
  • Working knowledge of resource planning within an operational environment.
  • Selfmotivated with the flexibility to adapt and willingness to develop new skills.
  • Flexibility to balance a number of priorities.
  • Enforce stockyard safety standards.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, both in terms of keeping people informed and providing constructive feedback.
  • Able to make a positive contribution to the organisation.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience of supervision and the ability to manage and motivate others
  • A full understanding of health & safety and security requirements
