The Head of Business Assurance is a very high-profile role - you will lead Ofgem's approach to assurance over Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) activities; embedding a newly developed approach, enforcing behaviour change and enabling continuous improvement across the organisation.
We'll look to you to set the direction for risk management across Ofgem, facilitating discussions with the CEO and senior team about strategic risk, and challenging directors to ensure that the right policies and behaviours are in place.
You'll be expected to lead quarterly discussions with the CEO and the ARAC about overall strengths, weaknesses and actions to improve GRC activities across Ofgem.
A respected professional and strong communicator, you'll have a proven track record of working closely with a senior leadership team.
You'll be able to provide quality assurance over the adequacy of GRC and have the experience and skills to manage assurance programmes in a complex environment, and implement strategies for risk management.

Job description:
The primary purpose of the Head of Business Assurance role is to provide the CEO and the ARAC with assurance that there are robust governance, risk management and internal control arrangements across Ofgem.
This will be achieved by leadership of a Business Assurance change programme across Ofgem and the management of a Business as Usual Assurance team to deliver a range of assurance products which the Head of Business Assurance will draw on when providing advice to the Chief Executive (CEO) and the Audit Committee (ARAC).
- Lead Ofgem's approach to assurance over Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC)activities; embedding a newly developed approach, enforcing behaviour change and enabling continuous improvement.
- Set direction for risk management across the organisation, facilitating discussions with the executive about strategic risk
- Challenge Ofgem directors to ensure that the right policies and behaviours are in place across the Department to ensure effective governance, risk management and internal control. Monitor their compliance in achieving this, and intervene where they are not.
- Challenge Ofgem policy owners across Corporate Functions such as Finance, Risk Management, HR, Information Management, Management Controls, Programme Management to ensure that the right policies and support structures are in place to enable strong governance risk management and effective internal control. Monitor their compliance in achieving this, and intervene where they are not.
- Act as secretariate of a subgroup of the Executive tasked with ensuring the effectiveness of GRC activities across the organisation
Person specification:
- Lead quarterly discussions with the Executive and the ARAC about overall strengths, weaknesses and actions to improve GRC activities across the organisation
- Ownership of the Assurance and Risk Management frameworks and related tools.
- Direction setting for a wide ranging Risk Management Community across Ofgem Regular reporting based on publication of Assurance Maps showing the strength of GRC activities across the three lines of defence
- Chair quarterly challenge meetings with each director
