Flexible work patterns may be considered and will depend on the training needs of the department.


You should be able to support and train our staff who are working towards State registration and those specialising in Haematology & Blood Transfusion at an advanced level to complete the Specialist Portfolio.


You will work closely with the Haematology & Blood Transfusion Managers to ensure the technical skills and knowledge of the staff produce a safe and effective service for our users.

Having knowledge of Haematology & Blood Transfusion competencies required to comply with MHRA legislation and ISO standards 15189 is advantageous.


Although not a management role - technical ability and supervisory skills are needed, to support the service both at Colchester and - on occasion - at Ipswich Hospital.


Applicants should be HCPC registered with comprehensive knowledge and experience of laboratory Haematology & Blood Transfusion commensurate with this band.

Advanced qualification at MSc or Specialist portfolio level is a requirement.


Report training compliance to the Pathology Training team, coordinating appropriate training (both in-house and external) for the staff within Haematology & BT.


Report to the department managers, working with the section leads to identify and address any training needs and reporting to the Service Lead as required.

To facilitate the training and development needs for all staff in the Blood Transfusion and Haematology Service, including Clinical Scientists and Consultant Clinical Scientists but excluding Medical Consultants based at Colchester Hospital

Applicants should be confident, motivated and willing to learn and must possess a wide range of skills demonstrating good numeracy and literacy, training experience and attention to detail.

referably, you will have previous experience of using the Grifols analysers, Sysmex technology and ACL TOPS or demonstrate an understanding of the technologies used within the department.
