About This Role
The Director of Technology Operations is a role that sits at the heart of our technology ambitions, acting as a keystone in the effective delivery and expansion of our technological capabilities.
You will lead a team of dedicated professionals, steering our platforms, infrastructure, datacentre and cloud hosting, and research technology environments to not only meet the current demands of our vibrant academic community but also to anticipate future needs.
This is a leadership role that demands not only a masterful understanding of technology but also a visionary approach to how it can be harnessed.
You will work alongside peers who are equally passionate about pushing the boundaries of what technology can achieve in the pursuit of academic excellence and societal betterment, in line with LSE's foundational purpose.

You will be expected to:
Craft and evolve a comprehensive strategy for our technological infrastructure that aligns with LSE's broad academic and operational goals.
Cultivate a team culture that is dynamic and forward-thinking, capable of delivering high-quality operational services while influencing the strategic direction of our institution's technology journey.
Engage with a diverse stakeholder group across all levels, building trusted relationships that enhance our technological delivery and innovation.Your background should reflect significant experience in managing technology operations within a complex and vibrant organisation, preferably within the higher education sector.
A deep understanding of the interplay between technology and educational excellence is essential, as is a proven track record of leading high-performing teams in this context.
The successful candidate will:
Lead on the creation of the institution's technology infrastructure, applications, data and platforms vision and strategy, working closely with the CIO (Chief Information Officer), DTS (Data and Technology Services) leaders and operational support leaders across the School.
Take a lead on drawing the clear connection between Enterprise Architecture and the delivery and improvement of technology, infrastructure, platforms, and application capability.
Operate as the LSE platforms, infrastructure and applications domain expert ensuring that best practice approaches are appropriately localised and the right maturity levels implemented in a consistent manner across the division and School.
Operate as the champion, accountable leader, and domain expert for the School's research computing environments, working with peers across DTS to deliver a flexible best-in-sector technology environment that accommodates the community's various needs.
Develop annual (and otherwise as required) operating plans that drive towards the LSE's Technology Mission. Ensure that these plans are widely understood and socialised and supported by clear resource planning.Be accountable for the operational implementation of cyber-security practices into our core technologies and applications and driving forward 'privacy and security by design' in all services.
Champion security and privacy by design, integrating these principles into all technology activities.Be accountable and responsible for transition from project and programmes into operational support in the technology portfolio.
