    Information Assurance Specialist

    Fully Remote

    £400 - £500 - Outside IR35

    Summary: The Information Assurance Specialist plays a critical role in safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive information and IT systems within the university environment. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to assess risks, implement security measures, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

    Responsibilities:

    • Conduct regular assessments of information security risks and vulnerabilities, utilizing industry-standard methodologies.
    • Develop and implement information security policies, procedures, and controls in alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
    • Monitor and analyse security events and incidents, responding promptly to mitigate potential threats and breaches.
    • Collaborate with IT teams to design, implement, and maintain security solutions such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, antivirus software, and encryption technologies.
    • Provide guidance and support to university departments and units on security-related matters, including risk assessments, security awareness training, and incident response planning.
    • Assist in conducting security audits and assessments of third-party vendors and service providers to ensure compliance with contractual requirements and security standards.
    • Previous experience working within a Higher Education Institution is a bonus.

    Qualifications:

    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), or other relevant certifications preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of information security principles, standards, and best practices, including ISO/IEC 27001, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and PCI DSS.
    • Experience with security technologies such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, endpoint security, encryption, and identity/access management solutions.
