Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Inherited Metabolic Medicine

Clinical Fellow (ST5) Fixed term one year

We are seeking a senior Paediatric trainee for an exciting opportunity to work within the Scottish Inherited Metabolic Disorders Service. The post will be based in the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow and the fellow will have the opportunity to attend and conduct supervised outpatient clinics and to gain experience in the diagnosis and management of inpatients at this hospital and at other hospitals for children in Scotland, particularly the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh.

This Fellowship post is for 40 hours per week and is suitable for a senior trainee in Paediatric medicine who has completed core training and has membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. This will provide an excellent opportunity to gain additional clinical, research and audit experience in preparation for application to the GRID training programme in PIMM. There is no general Paediatric or out-of-hours commitment, so this post is not recognised for training.

The Royal Hospital for Children is co-located with the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Maternity and Neonatal services, and extensive modern laboratory services including Paediatric and specialist metabolic Biochemistry, the Scottish Newborn Screening Laboratory and Clinical and laboratory Genetics. In addition to many national and regional specialist tertiary services, the service also supports an extensive array of community child health services. RHC, Glasgow, is the largest paediatric teaching hospital in Scotland and is a world leader in the provision of child and adolescent health services.

The Scottish IMD service is a nationally commissioned service for people of all ages with IMDs. The successful candidate will participate, under Consultant supervision, in the provision of outpatient care and advice for children with IMD and their families across Scotland.

Applicants must possess full GMC registration and a licence to practise. Those trained within the UK should possess a postgraduate qualification (MRCPCH or equivalent). Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent qualifications and training. All applicants must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in Paediatric Inherited Metabolic Medicine.

Details on how to contact the Recruitment Service can be found within the Candidate Information Packs.
