Key Purpose

  • To ensure that all students rapidly improve their literacy and oracy levels across the
whole school.

  • To lead on literacy development across all phases of the school, rapidly improving

our reading provision and outcomes for students:

  • Developing a literacy curriculum vision including non-negotiables of delivery in
accordingly.

  • Ensure opportunities to develop communication skills of oracy and writing are in
place across all curriculum areas.

  • Ensure literacy data is reported on a regular basis to Senior Leaders and Governors
and lead on any external assessments

  • Lead on reporting to Parents around literacy and reading progress.
  • Work closely with the Teaching and Learning Lead to devise and deliver
appropriate staff CPD to support literacy development.

  • Work closely with the Curriculum lead to map and sequence the literacy
curriculum; ensuring that tiers of vocabulary are clear foci points and that there is

consistency of approach to literacy across the school to support students

  • Develop a love of reading across all phases demonstrating growing numbers of
Students reading for pleasure.

  • Embed the Tutor Time Reading programme ensuring quality assurance; that this
programme actively supports the reading improvement; reflects the diversity of our

community and also enhances the cultural capital of our students.

  • Oversee the development of a new school library, working with external agencies
to ensure that libraries and book corners have appropriate texts which are

accessed consistently across all phases.


Duties and responsibilities:
Teaching


As a classroom teacher, you are expected to:

  • plan, prepare and present lessons in accordance with WSS Guidelines;
- teach, according to the educational needs of all students assigned to deploying

strategies within the WSS Graduated Response to Teaching, Learning and

Expectations (GRTLE);
- mark and record assessments completed by students, ensuring all underperforming

work is challenged in line with school guidance;
- set and mark homework for KS4 on a regular basis in accordance with school policy;
- assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of students

by using appropriate baseline data;
- assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use this assessment to

improve aspects of teaching.


Duties and responsibilities:
Leading and managing staff


  • Provide support to staff regarding teaching and learning, resources, and planning for
Literacy

  • Monitor teaching and learning by visiting lessons, scrutinising books, and talking with
students to assess how well Literacy is being implemented and how well it is delivered

across the school

  • Provide feedback to staff based on the above observations to identify training needs
and provide continuing professional development (CPD) in Literacy

  • Coach and model team teaching
  • Support teachers to make accurate assessments, manage internal and external
moderation, and complete external moderation exercises

  • Contribute to timetabling and manage setting students into attainment groups
