    Job summary

    CUH Theatres has an excellent opening for Qualified Nurses who wish to become a part of our team of Perioperative Practitioners, specialising in Anaesthetic, Scrub, Recovery and PACU. If chosen, you will be given an opportunity to participate in a funded PgCert in Perioperative care that is part of the MSc in Perioperative Medicine program offered by University College London. As a part of this role, you will be required to complete the Anaesthetic Practitioner module first which is part of the PgCert module that is fully endorsed by Cambridge University Health Partners and offered through a clinical education program.

    To attain the PgCert you need to complete four modules which are listed below

    Compulsory module

    The Anaesthetic Practitioner module

    Two other core theory modules

    The Landscape of Perioperative Medicine

    Quality and Safety and Leadership in Perioperative Care.

    Optional forth module listed below (choose one)

    Post-anaesthetic Care

    Surgical first assistant (SFA)

    Critical Care

    Main duties of the job

    The role of an Anaesthetic Practitioner (AP) involves assisting the Anaesthetist, preparing the anaesthetic machine and airway trolleys, and delivering exceptional holistic care to patients.

    To fully develop the required competencies for the course, it is mandatory to work in the Perioperative Care Anaesthetic setting. Throughout your training, you will gain hands-on experience in diverse clinical areas alongside knowledgeable clinical supervisors who will mentor you and assess your progress. This practical training will occur in the presence of experienced anaesthetic and theatre staff.

    You will continue to work your standard shift patterns, which may include unsociable hours on weekdays, weekends, and nights.

    We aim to develop you to your full potential and offer various other post-qualification routes for continuing development, including enrolment on our band 5 Development Pathway, Immediate Life Support Courses and ILM Level 2 Award in Leadership and Team development and Skills.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Current RN(A)/RN(C) or equivalent.
  • Desirable

  • Relevant Teaching and assessing qualification (or must be willing to work towards whilst in post).
  • Experience

    Essential

  • No relevant post qualification. experience for newly registered practitioners.
  • Desirable

  • Clinically current in an area of perioperative practice.
  • Evidence of mentoring of learners and junior staff
  • Experience of managing a clinical area.
  • Knowledge

    Essential

  • Good communication skills both written and verbal, capable of working as an integral member of a team.
  • Ability to prioritise workload.
  • Desirable

  • Has understanding of theatre patient care pathway and process
  • Skills

    Essential

  • Committed to staff support.
  • Willing to develop perioperative practice.
