    Job Title: Junior Occupational Therapist at University Hospitals of North Midlands

    Job Summary

    Are you about to graduate with a degree in Occupational Therapy in 2023? Or are you a Basic Grade Occupational Therapist looking to gain experience in an acute hospital setting? If so, this opportunity might be perfect for you!

    We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Junior Occupational Therapist to join the Therapy Teams at the University Hospital of North Midlands. This rotational position offers a diverse range of experiences within an exciting Major Trauma Centre across various medical specialties at both hospital sites.

    There are several rotation options available, including hand therapy, acute rehab trauma unit, emergency portals, cardiology, dementia care, amputee rehabilitation, oncology, and critical care. For more details on the skills and experiences you can expect to gain, please refer to the 'Main duties of the job' section below.

    Main Duties of the Job

    Below are details of the clinical opportunities available during this rotation:

    • Hand Therapy: Treat patients with hand injuries, including splint design and fabrication.
    • Acute Rehab Trauma Unit: Provide early rehabilitation for neurosurgical and polytrauma patients, including cognitive and functional assessments.
    • Emergency Portals: Make rapid decisions for A&E patients to assist with discharge planning and admission avoidance.
    • Cardiology and General Medicine: Work with patients with conditions such as MND, Cardiology, and post Critical Care Step down.
    • Dementia and Delirium (Frail Elderly): Develop skills in managing frailty, falls, and supporting patients with dementia and delirium.
    • Amputee Rehabilitation (Surgery): Aid patients post lower limb amputations, including wheelchair and environmental assessments.
    • Oncology and Renal: Assist patients with oncology/renal conditions, including discharge planning and manual handling assessments.
    • Critical Care: Acquire skills in anxiety management, cognitive assessments, and early functional rehabilitation in a high dependency setting.

    Person Specification

    Education & Qualifications

    • Essential: Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy or near completion of the program. Registered with HCPC upon starting the role.
    • Desirable: Evidence of relevant Continuous Professional Development.

    Experience

    • Essential: Diverse clinical placements during studies. Demonstrated work experience in various NHS settings.
    • Desirable: Experience in an acute care environment.

    Skills, Ability & Knowledge

    • Essential: Proactive in self-development, strong written communication skills, ability to collaborate with other professionals, and experience in Mental Health, Acute, or Community settings.
