Key accountabilities

  • Assist in the building, development and testing of the Markel Internal Capital Model using WTW's Igloo
  • Ensure that updates to the capital model follow a detailed process, are fully documented and communicated to senior management
  • Deal directly with Internal Model stakeholders to assist with parameterisation
  • As part of the Risk & Capital team help to ensure that the Internal Model meets regulatory requirements and deliverables for Lloyd's, the PRA and other relevant regulators are provided in a timely manner
  • As part of the Risk & Capital team help to embed the use of capital modelling at Markel. This may involve education and presentation sessions to business stakeholders, communication with senior management and working with the actuaries or other departments
  • Ensure that the model is" fit for purpose" to support internal capital allocation decisions and embedded in the business via various uses to include product pricing, reinsurance placement strategy & structures and legal entity capital allocation
  • Review and ensure consistency of capital inputs
  • Run the model and review outputs
  • Provide assistance to the validation team including stress, scenarios and sensitivity tests
  • Assist in other Risk & Capital work for Markel Corporation as needed

Skills & experience

  • Be a graduate, having completed a numerical degree with a classification of 2:1 or above, or equivalent
  • Proven experience/desire to gain experience of capital modelling and analysing capital model output
  • Experience of working with SQL Databases and or Igloo would be advantageous but not essential
  • Have welldeveloped communication and interpersonal skills in order to interact well within the team, with underwriters, risk management, finance team and senior management
  • Display excellent analytical skills and strong investigative skills
  • Have very good IT knowledge in particular:
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Experience of working with SQL Databases and VBA is desirable
  • Any experience of or willingness to acquire expertise in Willis Towers Watson Igloo or other modelling platforms (e.g. RPC Tyche, R, Matlab)
  • Some knowledge of the Solvency II directive would be desirable
