About the role:

Horsham District Council are looking for a Democratic Services Officer.

This is the perfect opportunity to join our small dynamic Democratic Services team working to facilitate the Council's decision-making processes and support the delivery of elections and electoral registration.

As a Democratic Services Officer you will provide administrative and secretarial support to committees, sub-committees and advisory groups, including collating agendas and taking concise, accurate minutes.

The role also assists with the general running of the Democratic Services team and includes updating information on the Council's website (using the committee management system) and providing information and support to Councillors and officers on constitutional matters.

You will also provide support to the Electoral Services function, carrying out administrative tasks to ensure that the register of electors is updated and assisting the Democratic Services and Elections Manager in the delivery of all aspects of elections.

To succeed in this role, you must have good administration and minute taking skills along with a pro-active and flexible approach to work and excellent communication skills.

You must be able to prioritise your work and be flexible, responding to the needs of the team at the time.

The role involves covering evening meetings (typically around 7.30pm but some can go later) once or twice a month.

At the time of an election, working additional hours are required and work would be predominantly office based during this period.

The post would be ideally suited to an experienced Democratic Services Officer, although applicants with suitable knowledge, skills and qualifications are welcome to apply.

It would also be suitable to someone looking for a career in local government and will provide extensive experience working with both Councillors and senior officers.

Starting salary will be offered dependent on skills and experience.
