H9 Technical Recruitment are currently looking for a
Mechanical Technician to work at our clients EfW plant in Central Belt of Scotland


Role & Responsibilities


The Mechanical Technician works as a member of a small maintenance team, (at times alone) and is responsible for the pre-planned maintenance duties, reactive maintenance duties and improvement activities and on all mechanical equipment across the LocationsPlant whilst working within the Company's Health, Safety and Environmental processes and procedures at all times.


  • Responsible for performing of preplanned and reactive maintenance tasks on a range of mechanical and electrical equipment including motors, valves, rotating plant, pumps, hydraulic packs, and conveyor systems ensuring that plant commercial performance,availability and reliability are maintained to a high level.
  • Fault finding/ maintaining of mechanical and associated control systems.
  • Conducting location oil sampling, greasing and lubrication routines.
  • Developing, conducting, and supporting continuous improvement activities, plant modifications, design work and outage preparations.
  • Maintaining the SynGas and Continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS).
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records using the site CMMS including, where required, the completion of maintenance reports and safety or environmental investigations.
  • When required assisting during major maintenance periods, shutdowns, outages etc. to ensure maximum plant availability and efficiency.
  • Work alongside other technicians in the maintenance team to diagnose faults and where identified suggest equipment upgrades to prevent reoccurrence of common faults.
  • Conducting the duty of Acceptor as defined in the Company's Safety Rules.
  • Assist Location Management and other designated Location personnel in the development and review of Location Documentation such as, but not limited to, Standard Operating Procedures and maintenance manuals.
  • Identify and immediately report any accidents, incidents, near misses, observations or anomalies that have, or have the potential to affect the safety of the process or personnel.
  • Identify and immediately report plant defects, observations and anomalies that have, or have the potential to affect the safety of the process or which are noted to be abnormal to usual operations
  • Undertake assigned duties in order to maintain site legislative compliance. Examples of such duties may be tooling inspections, ladder inspections and maintaining the Locations Written Scheme of Examination Records.
  • Manage and maintain the mechanical critical spares list and ensure the ongoing of availability of critical spares at the Location.
  • Ensure that an adequate supply of spares and consumables is maintained at the Location to minimise the risk of extended downtime in the event of a breakdown.
  • Where assigned budget lines support the Maintenance Manager in identifying site maintenance budgetary requirements and highlight upcoming expenditure.
  • Manage and evaluate, assigned engineering & maintenance projects, contracts, and contractors, ensuring they operate within agreed budgetary requirements, taking action to reduce costs.
  • Supervise and direct onsite contractors when required.

Skills & Qualifications

  • HNC/D Qualification in Engineering
  • Recognised engineering apprenticeship
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • Working knowledge of IBM Maximo or other CMMS
  • Safety focused with good understanding of a Permit to Work process
