Good communication skills and informed clinical judgement are vital to the role.

It is imperative that you can provide evidence of working with people who have experienced a mental health problem and are able to demonstrate an understanding of how anxiety and depression present in Primary Care.

You should have a real interest in helping people with anxiety and depression to achieve a level of recovery which will improve their overall wellbeing and day to day life.

You will join a team of CBT Therapists, Counsellors and Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners. You will be responsible for assessing patient suitability and delivering evidenced based CBT interventions. The post is managed and supervised within the IAPT service with some specialist supervision for Long Term Conditions.


Applicants should be BABCP accredited/working towards registration and have experience of working in Primary care mental health services for adults.

Key Responsibilities

  • Make decisions on the suitability of new referrals, identifying the most suitable service for the patient
  • Formulate, implement and evaluate individual therapy programmes for patients
  • Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment of clients in line with the service.
  • Attend multidisciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate
  • Liaise with other health and social care staff from a range of agencies with a regard to referrals
  • Promote and maintain links with services across the Trust to help coordinate provision of an effective Psychological Therapies Service
  • Contribute to the teaching and training of mental health professionals and other staff working in the service
