Speech and Language Therapist


We have an exciting opportunity available for an enthusiastic, motivated and well-organised Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly and supportive children's service.

Our children's SLT service is organised into seven locality teams serving the areas of Stockton, Hartlepool, County Durham and Darlington.

Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist's work in designated locality teams, supported by a range of specialist and lead SLT's.

This post will be based in the Hartlepool and Stockton part of the service.


As a key member of the team you will be passionate about working with children and young people, and will work closely with health colleagues, partner agencies, parents and carers.

You will be an excellent communicator and enjoy working both independently and as part of a team in different settings.

You will carry a caseload of children and young people with a range of difficulties with support and supervision from more experienced/specialist staff as appropriate.


This post will provide you with:

Generate appropriate strategies to manage an individual caseload including the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge of a diverse range of clients with a broad range of communication, eating and drinking difficulties with supervision, support and guidance from senior clinicians.


Design and select appropriate means of assessment, analyse assessment data, make appropriate clinical decisions and define a differential diagnosis regarding level of client functioning, with guidance from clinical supervisors as required.


Develop and implement care protocols and programmes of treatment, to meet the needs of clients in conjunction with their carers, other members of the speech and language therapy team and other appropriate multi-disciplinary teams (MDT).


Contribute to discussions on service planning and policy as a member of the clinical team and become actively involved in the implementation of policy and service development through membership of departmental working groups.


Structure and implement evidence-based, individually tailored intervention programmes for clients, families and other professionals based on current understanding of best practice guidelines with support and guidance from senior clinicians.


Systematically evaluate clients', carers' and professionals' responses to intervention, monitor change, and review and implement current or new care plans in light of up to date evidence regarding client status with support and guidance from senior clinicians.
