Content Designer - Inside IR35**
Contract Term: 11 months

Location:
Hybrid - 1-2 days per week in Leeds

Working in a multi-disciplinary team to design user-centred content for Universal Credit (UC) claimants and staff. Building domain knowledge around that team's 'theme'.

Collaborating with user researchers, interaction designers and other disciplines and stakeholders to identify the best ways to meet user needs within departmental and technical constraints.

Working with content design colleagues to identify and implement improvements to existing content, working practices and processes. Supporting content colleagues by providing constructive feedback on their work. Helping non-content colleagues to understand the value of user-centred content design (as opposed to copy editing). Advocating for an evidence-based approach to content design decisions. Contributing to the creation and maintenance of content design guidance. Attending regular and ad hoc meetings with theme teams and the content team.


As a Content Designer your main responsibilities would be:

  • Working with user researchers and other colleagues to identify and understand user needs, including attending user research sessions.
  • Working with business analysts and other colleagues to understand departmental aims, policy intent and technical constraints.
  • Creating content to meet user needs within those constraints mostly in the UC online service, but also in other channels, such as our wiki pages.
  • Working on needs analysis to identify content gaps and overlaps.
  • Monitoring the performance of content to understand user behaviour and feedback.
  • Identifying ways to improve the content and the tools and processes we use to design and create it.

Skills Profile:

  • You understand the role of content in multidisciplinary teams and can articulate and advocate for it. You can work collaboratively with colleagues from other disciplines in multidisciplinary teams.

Content concepts and prototyping. You can build and create a variety of different prototypes. You can choose the most appropriate option to visualise content in context for different audiences.

Stakeholder relationship management. You can negotiate with and influence stakeholders, and you can manage relationships effectively.

Strategic thinking. You can help lead the design and implementation of strategies, evaluating their impact and progress to ensure business objectives and the needs of users are being met.

User focus. You can collaborate with user researchers and performance analysts to advocate effectively for users. You can understand the different types of user research, evidence and data and how they're used.

User-centred content design. You can show a deep understanding of end-to-end journeys and how content is affected within these journeys. You can identify where journey fixes or content improvements need to be made.
