Salary £21,400 - £25,000 (FTE) (£13,013 - £15,202 pro-rata'd) + Performance related pay bonus + Defined Benefit Pension

23 days holiday (rising to 26 after five years) plus Bank Holidays

Defined Benefit Pension Scheme with c. 20% employer contributions (and 3 x salary life cover)

Permanent Role - Full time


We are looking for an experienced Payroll Administrator with passion and drive to succeed in a fast-paced environment to join a Building, Repair & Maintenance Company based in Hull working 3 days per week (days to be agreed).


You will need to have the ability to work independently and have proven experience of running Sage payroll activities in order to process the monthly payroll and pensions for circa 465 employees.

Working closely with HR, you will need to have the ability to raise queries and liaise with individuals and teams across the business as needed.


Essential skills:


  • A minimum of two years payroll experience
  • Proficient MS Excel / IT Skills
  • Good spoken and written communication skills
  • Sageline 50 Payroll experience
  • Understanding of payroll legislation
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations and to remain calm and professional
  • Applicants must be confident, proactive and able to work in a fast paced environment

Duties will include:


  • End to end processing of payroll
  • Collating and reconciling payroll information
  • Processing starters and leavers
  • Administrating maternity and paternity pay and other statutory payments
  • Processing and the administration of a local government pension scheme and associated queries
  • Processing monthly payroll journal
  • Authorising adjustments to employees payroll including expenses
  • Produce monthly payslips
  • RTI submissions
  • Dealing with payroll queries
  • Completing adhoc reports as required
  • Assisting with payroll projects when necessary
  • Liaison with third parties such as HMIT and pension bodies
  • Calculating and processing payments for third parties
  • Completing year end reports and returns
