    About the role

    The post holder will be required to plan for and complete primary research in the Middle East; work wih the PI to analyse the qualitative data collected throughout the project; actively contribute to authoring and co-authoring a range of academic and non-academic dissemination activities; and support the success of the project. Please see the job description for full duties and responsibilities, but these will include:

  • Support the ongoing development of the project's interdisciplinary conceptual and theoretical framework;
  • Plan for and undertake fieldwork in Lebanon, Jordan and/or Türkiye.
  • Facilitate creative writing workshops in selected sites in Lebanon, Jordan and/or Türkiye.
  • Liaise and work with locally-based researchers in Lebanon, Jordan and Türkiye.
  • Work closely with the PI in analysing the multi-sited qualitative data collected.
  • Actively contribute to the project's outreach and dissemination programme in line with the Impact and Communications strategy and project's objectives, to a range of stakeholders in the Middle East, Europe and the UK. This will include preparing and delivering contributions at seminars, conferences, policy roundtables, public engagement activities, lessons learned sessions, and an end of project conference.
  • Contribute to research meetings and events; this will include presenting reports as required, and preparing follow-up reports as appropriate.
  • Support the development and implementation of effective communication systems and practices across the research team, including across the project's different sites in the Middle East and the UK to ensure good working relationships.

    Funding is available at Grade 7, spine point 30. This is a full time, fixed term post with funding available until 31st March . The appointment will start as soon as possible.

    About you

    Applicants must hold, or be nearing completion of, a PhD in a relevant field in the social sciences and/or humanities. You should have a strong knowledge of critical theories and postcolonial and decolonial literatures pertaining to refugees, displacement and responses to forced migration, including refugees' own responses to and conceptualisations of displacement, and have in-depth knowledge of and direct research experience in one or more of the project's fieldsites in Lebanon, Jordan and/or Türkiye. These include Beirut, Jebel al-Baddawi and Baddawi Camp (Lebanon); Amman, Irbid and Zarqaa (Jordan); and Istanbul, Hatay and Gaziantep (Türkiye).
